Random periods, the system just goes offline for about 10 seconds then back on as if nothing ever happened.
The syslog contains messages such as

What router are you using .
Are you on gigafast or fttc
If you are on gigafast is your issue with fibre or ethernet
If you log into the Router what is the PPP session uptime on the status page .
If you are talking about ethernet. do you have any hubs or switch units . Or power line extended .
What and how many devices are you running on your network
Cat 5 is 100 meg
Cat5a is 1000meg
Cat 6 is 1000meg

Those reports are at the wan port on the vodafone gigafast router fttp, weirdly when the wan port disconnects and the whole internet goes down, the PPP session doesn't show a disconnect.
p.s don't know why you put this meaningless, and actually incorrect stuff at the bottom of your post
"Cat 5 is 100 meg
Cat5a is 1000meg
Cat 6 is 1000meg "

Why are you using a 100meg cat5 cable beween the router and the fibre module.
I could be wrong but if the ppp is still showing as connected then i dont think the internet has dropped .
ring vodafone up and ask them how many times you have disconnected . Vodafone can check this as it will be show on vodafobe logs .
May be worth checking the vodafone name server thats is still playing up
If i use the vodafone name server i keep getting issue where my sky box keeps disconnecting for around 10 seconds and then reconnects same as the laptop etc
Ps the actually incorrect stuff as you put it is actually correct
Category | Max speed transmission | Max bandwidth |
Cat 5 | 100 Mbps | 100 MHz |
Cat 5e | 1,000 Mbps | 100 MHz |
Cat 6 | 1,000 Mbps | 250 MHz |
Cat 6a | 10,000 Mbps | 500 MHz |
Cat 7 | 10,000 Mbps | 600 MHz |
Cat 7a | 10,000 Mbps | 1,000 MHz |

It's not 100mb cat5, I noticed that myself in the log, its either
a) a display problem
b) it negotiates at 100mb during coming back online but moving to 1000 (which is very weird if it is)
Edit, just scanned through another log after I got the fault, it the line comes up as 1000. to me this sounds like either the port is faulty either on the fibre or the router.
It is deffo 1000mb though, otherwise I wouldn't be getting 940/940 ish on speeds. I also don't use vodafones NS, always used 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4 or 1.1.1.1
All I know is at random times, the "internet" goes down and the syslog shows that eth0 link is down
secondly you said cat5"a" ...,, also I bet you now I can run higher than 2Gb on a cat5e and I could achieve 10Gb on a cat6 (not a). But yes I was just being facetious.

I believe it's quite normal for Ethernet devices to negotiate at a low speed until they know what is the fastest they can both do. A problem is they don't know what the cable connecting them is so they can negotiate a speed that the cable can't support.
