Solution

Microsoft teams calls

Apologies if this has been answered previously but I recently joined Vodafone with the full fibre 100 package. I work from home and make regular Microsoft teams video calls and my connection keeps dropping out. It will either completely drop out or it will freeze for me/others part of the video call.

Is there a solution to this? Apart from that the connection is absolutely fine and I have had no issues.

Thank you in advance for any help.

To be fair about this - Teams is just not a great piece of software!  I have successfully sat in a car using Teams on my mobile and with a Bluetooth keyboard, without an issue.  The next time I needed to use it, I just gave up after about 25 minutes.  Zoom was much more reliable!

Hi @annasor89 I'm facing similar issues, did you ever got it resolved? If so can you please share your resolution?

No, I’m really sorry but I am continuing to try and get this resolved. Spoke with someone from Vodafone just this week and waiting for them to call me back. They have said there is no fault and just spoke over the top of me the whole call.

I get the same from Vodafone support and claim there is no issue. I’ll be leaving Vodafone soon to move to another provider.

Hello @annasor89 and @mike654, Hopefully Vodafone will address this issue sooner. Also, just wanted to let you both know that it worked for me after turning off firewall on the router. (but this is only 6 hrs of testing, will observe for next 2 days and keep you posted).

@CrimsonLiar just wanted to know your thoughts on turning off firewall option on the router. Looks like that has fixed the issue at least in my case.

@udaiibhaskar interesting as I have got rid of all the Vodafone equipment and use a modem and ubiquiti waps, and it didn’t change a thing.
what speeds are you getting now downloading from one drive, I get 2-5mbps usually

This is clearly a network problem but we need to work out what area(s) are/is affected.

I've just tested my connection to Onedrive with a 2GB file and maxxed out my connection in both directions. I'm on the Leeds gateway.

The issue my employer has with Teams is that they've bought into a whole secure access package, which requires downloads on computers and phones if you want to access their systems.  The promise is that the software won't snoop, it's unnoticeable and completely benign!  The reality is that it messes up around 30% of mobile phones to the point of needing a reset, and triggers AV warnings left right and centre on PCs.  Result, the number of employees accessing company systems from their own mobiles and PCs has fallen through the floor.

As for using a router with the firewall off, if you can I'd monitor how many attack attempts you receive, it'll be massive!

This is very interesting to see. I've got a user at the company I work at having the same random intermittent packet loss with the audio dropping in teams. we've tried the user on 3 laptops, and each laptop behaves the same when using a VPN. Packet drops and then the disconnection from Teams. although the user can join the call on their mobile and it works without a hiccup. Vodafone says it is an issue with the VPN, but I'm struggling to see how this could be the case with 5k+ people using the VPN and this 1 person being the only user with the issue. been going on for about 7 months.
