I have a Nighthawk X6 AC3200 router which I am trying to use as my main router. I have connected it to my Vodafone router, set everything up, but the netgear router is still not connected to the internet. Has anyone set this up before please?

Thanks for your reply. Are you referring to the WAN mode on the Netgear router or the Vodafone router?

I'm referring to the netgear WAN. Netgear WAN to Vodafone LAN and netgear WAN set to dhcp.
I just have to ask, is your connection fttc or fttp? If fttp and you're not bothered about the landline you'd be better doing away with the vf router altogether.
There is a workaround to get landline working with your own router on these forums (requires buying more hardware).

No it's not fttp or fttc unfortunately so I have to keep the VF router. I'll give your suggestion a go and let you know how it goes

What hardware would I need to get rid of my VF router?

If you are on VDSL2 - FTTC (fibre to the cabinet) or horror of horrors or ADSL then in order to do away with the Vodafone modem/router, you'd also need a modem, and you'd need to get your correct service username and password.
Would I recommend this? If you have to ask the question then probably not! I'm not trying to be elitist, but especially for beginners, there's a lot of bad info out there on the internet making it easy to mess things up.
So I guess the question is: Did you manage to get your AX6 working?

Thanks for your reply. What's the point of getting another modem to replace my VF one?
I got it to work. Sort of. It's connected to the internet but purely through the VF router. I want the NG router to log directly into my ISP with username and password.
Should I disable DHCP on my VF router and enable it on the NG router?

Something like a Draytek 130 will do the job and allow you to dial PPPoE on the NetGear for the WAN connection. I used them for years with FTTC, but are not needed now with FTTP.

The point is the Vodafone router doesn't have a "modem only" mode, therefore you need a separate modem.
