Solution

PPPOE authentication failure

Hi good people. Just had cityfibre upgrade me from vdsl to fibre this morning. All went well, plugged in my Asus AX88U, changed from vdsl to ethernet, changed VID to 911, waited for the ONT lights to come on and BINGO! All ticketyboo. Speedtest returned 912mbps down. Very happy.

Two hours later, no tinternets. ONT still lit up, but router says pppoe authentication failure.

I thought I'd drop a question here before building up the courage to call Vodafone and write off the next two hours. So any advice welcome.

You've upgraded from FTTC to FTTP. This is classed as a new service, which will of course have a new PPPoE login. You'll need to contact vodafone for your new details.

SNAP! on the router 😎

Yes, thought so. I did ask when arranging the upgrade but couldn't get a sensible answer from anyone. Just now slogged through playing 20 questions with support and I'm back online, speedtest is 930Mbps.

When choosing the router it was the 86 or 88. What swung it for me was the notifications.
