I used to get 5ms ping to London (from Coventry), now I am being auto connected to Edinburugh and I get 15 ping to there, when I try to speedtest to London or even right next to me in Leicester I am getting pings above 22...I called in and they just said "they added new servers and there's nothing much we can do"...
any help?

Must be a similar thing we are experiencing
Gigafast 900/900 Pro via cityfibre installed March flawless serivce 900+ up and down all day and night.
Since beginning of August looking at my thinkbroadband BQM I suffer horrendous packet loss between 4pm to midnight progressively getting worse (to the point I finally noticed) late august and september is even worse.
Download speeds can be as low as 50mb in an evening (upload maintains the 900mb+), however if I use a VPN and route myself even to america can get 600mb+ so clearly network congestion somewhere.
Vodafone have been moving me around (and say they have with lots of folk) to try and balance the load admitting their is a congestion problem but the 'fix' of a better connection keeps being pushed back and now support flat ignore my enquiry for an update.
Don't hold out much hope tbh this is the same support that made me do my tests again because I only showed the wifi disconnected why they would think I would do a speedtest while other devices were connected is beyond me, I took someones advise about replacing their kit with your own and tbh the speeds (lack of) are still the same.

@ZinGeRs are you suffering high Latency because you're connected to a gateway far from your geographical location as well!?
This thread is about Latency, not speed.

How do you find out which IP is which gateway?
Just curious, thanks.

If you run a traceroute from your laptop the gateway will be the first hop outside of your home network. Many routers will give you this info too, even the vf one.

You can look up Geo location of IPs here. https://tools.keycdn.com/geo
For example my first IP on a tracert is 90.246.0.1. That is in Leeds. I am in Coventry. The next IP is supposedly in the USA 63.130.104.202 (That's where it's registered) Then I end up being routed via Milton Keynes. 90.255.251.37.
I have no idea if all or some these are real or just registered locations.

If that IP was actually in the USA then the ping would be >100ms. It's likely this IP was originally Cable and Wireless which explains the geolocation.

Anyone else seeing this? My 'lease time' has expired and is constantly 'renewing', and has been for at least a few weeks (since before I got the static IP)

Yes, that is quite normal. It doesn't mean that your connection doesn't have a lease, just that the router has been unable to retrieve it. Had you not had a lease, your internet would have cut off after 24 hours. The lease if usually automatically refreshed after 12 hours, with no break in service when it refreshes!

@CrimsonLiar Thanks!
I've just added my French VPN server to my router and even though I'm getting similar ping times the whole Internet seems a lot snappier - even these forums. Says a lot.
