I used to get 5ms ping to London (from Coventry), now I am being auto connected to Edinburugh and I get 15 ping to there, when I try to speedtest to London or even right next to me in Leicester I am getting pings above 22...I called in and they just said "they added new servers and there's nothing much we can do"...

any help?

Great deduction. I'm in the same general area as you and I experienced the same pings. Can confirm Edinburgh if you post a traceroute.

I wonder why your routing has been changed again since the upgrades at Leeds are supposed to be completed. 😕

@Ripshod what's the best way to run a trace route

The easiest way in windows is to open the command prompt by entering "cmd" in the search tool on the taskbar and clicking "Command Prompt". Then just type in "tracert bbc.co.uk". Copy/paste the results.

@Ripshod

C:\Users\dalea>tracert bbc.co.uk

Tracing route to bbc.co.uk [151.101.0.81]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms RT-AX86U-DE28 [192.168.50.1]
2 7 ms 7 ms 7 ms 90.247.128.1
3 17 ms 14 ms 15 ms 63.130.104.202
4 * * * Request timed out.
5 15 ms 14 ms 14 ms 151.101.0.81

Trace complete.

it only does the 5 hops

Confirmed. 90.247.128.1 is the Edinburgh gateway (edbtn1-bng-c1).

I just hope they don't keep you there for too long. In my case I was on the Edinburgh gateway for over 3 months.

@Ripshod I'm getting full speed and low ping so they can keep me here haha its better than when I was routed via manchester

We'll have to wait for the image to be moderated but if it's a speedtest to the Edinburgh servers then it's not much to shout about. In real world usage most of our data goes to and comes from the South. Would be good to see your result on the Vodafone Watford server. More realistic.

here's my "local" server. Manchester, 165 miles away. Changing to servers actually near me gives higher pings.

Because you're routed via the Edinburgh gateway. So basically you're connection travels many many unnecessary miles over the vodafone network before it even meets the internet backbone. Try a speedtest to the vodafone Edinburgh server, you'll see your best pings there.
