Hiya,

In the next week im due to have my line activated for 900 Pro Xtra. I’m planning to use my own router (got the steps from this forum!) however I just wanted to know how I can still use the landline with Vodafone. Is this still possible if using your own router?

Hi @Powershell - it's great to hear you're joining us! There's no reason why a third party router wouldn't work with the landline service, we'd just be unable to guarantee it with it not being provided by us.

It's important to keep hold of the router we supply you with for the duration that you're with us, in case we need to do any checks on your service as we'd need our router to be plugged in to do this 👍

Thanks for getting back to me.

isn’t the phone digital now though? Or would I still be able to use the existing phone socket on the wallI have with current provider?

im not too sure how the new setup would be, as in if the phone connects to the Vodafone router (which I won’t be using) or if the landline phone would plug into the wall

No reason, other than the fact Vodafone will not supply the details needed.

@Powershell at the moment you would have to get a VOIP service from someone else.

You could keep the phone service with the current supplier, but that would be expensive, and should be digital itself by 2025.

Any VOIP service will connect into the router, either via dedicated sockets or via a VoIP ATA (Analogue Telephone Adapter) or direct to the LAN if it's a VOIP phone.

Hmm….this could end up being a problem then.

may have to speak to them and not go with the 900 pro xtra if I won’t be able to use the landline while using my own router….

The one thing I've not been able to get confirmation on from anyone using Gigafast (It's not available to me) is whether you could connect the Vodaphone router into the 3d party router and just use it as an ATA.

If you do get it. you could let us know.

@powershell - Something tells me you might be already aware of companies such as Vonage? (VIOP Systems).

@amanda: Are you implying there is an option to use a 3rd party router, instead of the Vodafone unit?

hi amanda,

im about to get gigagast 900 med via FTTP (city fiber in mk). do you know of any third party routers that work (mesh), ?  which are from the latest generation of mesh routers..? is there a list anywhere?

@jawwad Any Mesh router should work on FTTP as long as it is able to express the PPPoE credentials (username and password) and the VLAN, which for CityFibre is 911.

Currently you will lose the telephone service.
