Using own router with Vodafone 500mb broadband

I am on full fibre 500 and want to use my own router with it, as the Vodafone one is constantly dropping out and has poor range. I have obtained my username and password, and Vodafone says the Vlan id I need to use is 901, but that didn't work. Online, people have suggested 911 and 101, but neither of those work either.

I am using a Linksys hydra pro 6 router - has anyone had any luck using a Linksys router with 500 broadband? Is there a setting I am missing somewhere?

Thanks in advance

If your connection is via Openreach then you don't use a vlanid. Leave it blank or disabled.

If that's not the case then get in touch with vodafone and get your PPPoE details again.

Thanks for the reply. I connect via an Openreach box on the wall (ethernet wire goes from WAN port on the Vodafone Router to the ethernet port on the OpenReach white box thing). Does that mean I don't need to use the username and password given to me by Vodafone?

You need just username in the format dslXXXXXXXX@vodafone.co.uk and password (9 characters) - no vlanid.

Thank-you my good fellow. Your suggestion worked perfectly. You are a very community spirited person and all round good egg!

Hi, I also had this issue. I spoke with someone through Tobi chat today morning and I was told to use 101 or 901 which ever works. What do these numbers even mean? I am city fibre based not openreach

To keep it simple and not fill the page, vlanid can be seen as a key to the gateway server. You have to have the right code or you will never connect.

911 for cityfibre

101 for openreach fttc

No code for openreach fttp

101 for openreach fttp via Kingston Communications.

Google vlanid and see all that info. Probably better to keep it simple.

I connected my Asus ZenWiFi AC to the Openreach modem without having to set up a vlan, Vodafone also told me 901

The product is Full Fibre 150, the problem is I am getting the 150 Mbps with the Vodafone Router but with the Asus I am only getting 100 Mbps.

I don't know if I have some settings wrong ?

Solved it eventually, the QOS upload and download bandwidth settings were still set for the previous ADSL modem.

You dont need to bother with Vlan and 901 like Vodafone told me when you are connected via an Openreach Modem for FTTP.
