hey all
is there some magical invisible page on the new router that allows me to change the 2.4/5ghz channels ? the auto channel function just isnt working.
and before anyone says look here and there and posts a link to the app. i have tried the app and im unable to even sync the app with my router..
is there a config editor that can open the backed up config so i can change it there and upload it back ?
why has this function been removed from the firmware ? make 0 sense
my internet is perfect until i try to use a 2.4ghz device then its hampered by my neighbors devices. theres a free channel i can see but unable to change to it

.@Jayach No, not at ICL but a customer. Over my time we had ME29, 29xx, 39xx, and many DRS types.

You were in ICL too? I was with them for the whole of their existence. Previously I was with English Electric/LEO, and Fujitsu after.

I'm an old bloke too! (One who has been working in data networking for over 30 years.)
Despite my landline number being registered with the TPS, the ratio of useful calls to useless ones is way too low.
Vodafone (and the other carriers) should be doing more to automatically block spam calls at no extra expense to their customer base.
So, I have decided that depite having had this phone number for over 30 years, I will release it for someone else to use - and my household and I will go purely mobile.
Afterall, the people who phone my landline number and who I wish to talk to are known to me, so they will quickly know how to get me on my mobile number / WhatsApp / Meet etc.
The concept of getting broadband without needing a phone line is a refreshing thought.

Sky do, it's call Sky Talk Shield, it's brilliant, and the one thing I miss from Sky. I believe BT have something similar.

I solved all my Vodafone issues by moving to Now.
Same sync speed as Vodafone.
Wifi coverage/strength/speed same as Vodafone.
Improved speeds over a Powerlink connection.
Cheaper than Vodafone (£5 less for 65mbps and Anytime Calls).
I can change wifi channel!
The 'award winning' Vodafone app never worked on any of my ios devices, so I don't miss that.
The move went smoothly and with no issues from Now (first time ever for me!).
Vodafone did not offer me any better price, emailed me to tell me that my cancellation had been cancelled (it hadn't) and also emailed me to tell me that the package I had cancelled would go up by £3 .
I bought a £20 network switch and a couple of network cables to increase the 2 ports on the Now router.
All good so far.
Naturally, I shall check the situation and switch to whichever is the best value isp next year.

That is not the impression I get from the posts on the Now forum.

They have dropped the calls now, that's why I'm still here (they matched the Now price, and gave me the inclusive calls)

Who wouldn't. It's good the Now contract is just 1 year, I'm stuck here for another 2 years.

Does the inability to manually select a wifi channel still apply ?
I have received my modem today ready for activation and change over from Plusnet on 2 June and have logged in to the modem to check configuration and change wifi and router passwords and I can change wifi channels. Will the modem automatically update the firmware on connection and reset it back to Auto? It's currently on Firmware 19.4.0551-3261103

The firmware version won't actually change, but a configuration file will be sent to the router that will remove that option, and probably make a few other changes.

I bought an second hand tablet, just so I could change the channel. Since fixing it to 13 like my old Sky Router, changing the DNS to CloudDNS, it has been really good.
Before I would have to reboot the router every couple of days, because it would select a channel that had too many other people on it and cause issues.
It is annoying that Vodafone keep ignoring their customers, and must think we are all lying about having issues with their default setup.

There is only 1 real solution to 99% of the FTTC problems: never use hardware from the ISP.
After that, it's only a matter of choosing the ISP with a decent support since the underlaying Openreach infrastructure is the same. For me the best ISPs are those with a forum where you meet not only other users but ISP staff as well. Relying on phone for problems is something ancient and highly inefficient for both parts.
Having said that, I've never had a single problem with Vodafone, apart their rubbish Hub... rubbish in the sense of firmware, because with a serious firmware (e.g. OpenWRT if it could fit) it would be great. All the ISPs have a point in common: they are unbeatable in turning any hardware into rubbish. 😁
I only use the line, period. No router, no services like emails, no DNS, no nothing. When I switch I have to do basically nothing despite I prefer initially to plug the ISP router just to prevent problem if they awaits a special reply from the router (e.g. TR-069) or in cases like Vodafone (the only one I know) the need of a user password for the connection.
