Xbox Series X wired connection issue

Hi, hoping someone could help.

Since switching to Vodaphone I have been experiencing issues with my Xbox connecting to the the network via a wired connection. What I find is sometimes if I restart the Xbox enough, it pics up the wired connection.

What I have tried (on the Xbox):

Reset MAC - same issue

NAT Type set to open which is correct

Did a factory reset of the Xbox - same issueHowever when I connected the Xbox to the Wi-Fi - works fine

What I tried on the router;

Power cycle - same issue

Manually added DNS (8.8.8.8) - same issue

Changed Ethernet cable - same issue

Other devices connected via a Ethernet cable work fine.

At the point I don’t believe this is a Xbox issue but an issue with the router or broadband. Is there something that maybe stopping/making the wired connection intermittent as I’m not sure what else to do.

As I said I had no issues when on Virgin using a wired Ethernet connection.

There is nothing in the router that would cause it to give an IP address to the other devices, and not the Xbox.

Is it possible you have given the Xbox a fixed address outside of that used by Vodafone by default?

I don’t believe I have assigned the Xbox a specific IP as I haven’t gone into those settings. Looking at the the IP which is being used it ends in 188 while when connnected to Wi-Fi (where it works) the IP ends in 190 so I think this seems ok.

Happy to try and assign it a static IP if you could let me know what the range usually is for IP addresses which can be used.

It isn't necessary to set a static IP, the DHCP server should issue one, but it has to be in the range 192.168.1.xxx to work with the Vodafone router by default.

Don't forget you will have different IPs for the WiFi and the Ethernet.

I don't know the Xbox, but it's probably possible the Ethernet is static and the WiFi dynamic.

Of course it may not be an IP problem, but it's the only thing I can think of. (other than the Ethernet port is faulty)

Mind you I've just realised you say if you restart the Xbox enough, it does work, so it can't really be an IP problem, looks like I was barking up the wrong tree.

I’m going to try and set a static IP on the console to see if that does anything. It seems to be working (for the moment), had to complete a power cycle of the router aswell as for some reason it was adding a dynamic Port Mapping for my console which it didn’t do before. The reset of the router cleared this.

I have a Series X and have too encountered the problems you describe, I always kept my xbox in instant on state pre the big energy rise and leaving virmin media. 

Had a static ip and never had a problem at all while doing so.

Move over to gigafast 900/900 with Vodafone and then is where I had the issue because of the impending price rise (at the time) and the ability now for the xbox to carry out some updates from the energy saving option I changed it.

I would then occasionally have no internet once it started up and would often take several restarts of the console and or removal of the ethernet cable etc, in utter frustration put the console back to instant on state and not missed a beat since and this has been like this for a couple of weeks.

Seems really odd that this would be the case but I have never had the issue when in instant on mode the only other possible scenario is that another device uses that IP if the xbox is in energy saving mode but if so why after a couple of reboots does it take it back?

The reason for the static ip is also to do with the NAT not being fully open despite being UPNP (had this issue with virmin too) so have the static ip and manually open the ports

Yes, having the exact same issues by the sound of things. 

Set a static IP and was ok for a couple of days then the issue started again. Since then just decided to use the wireless. Bit of a pain when you have good speed broadband but you can’t make full use of download speed which is mainly why I have 500mb.

How do you go about manually opening ports?

The problem does appear to be the same however as I tried to point out I do not have this issue at all if the xbox is run in instant on mode.

Are your power settings instant on? Or energy saver?

As for port forwarding there is an option in the router for you manually add your own ports, tbh port forwarding and NAT issues have only been a problem with COD so you can google the ports that need to be open for those

Thanks, I’ll try it in the Instant on option as I usually keep it in low power mode.
