Hi, hoping someone could help.
Since switching to Vodaphone I have been experiencing issues with my Xbox connecting to the the network via a wired connection. What I find is sometimes if I restart the Xbox enough, it pics up the wired connection.
What I have tried (on the Xbox):
Reset MAC - same issue
NAT Type set to open which is correct
Did a factory reset of the Xbox - same issueHowever when I connected the Xbox to the Wi-Fi - works fine
What I tried on the router;
Power cycle - same issue
Manually added DNS (8.8.8.8) - same issue
Changed Ethernet cable - same issue
Other devices connected via a Ethernet cable work fine.
At the point I don’t believe this is a Xbox issue but an issue with the router or broadband. Is there something that maybe stopping/making the wired connection intermittent as I’m not sure what else to do.
As I said I had no issues when on Virgin using a wired Ethernet connection.

Could it really be so simple?
It's been a while since I last posted on this thread (TL;DR) but didn't I suggest setting a dedicated IP in the DHCP server?

@Ripshod That is interesting. It's a very short period if it's being use to poll for updates. I guess many implementations of DHCP will just assign the same IP for a given MAC from the cache.

@TONYHENDERSON I don't know why the help desk didn't suggest using an unmanaged switch. Unfortunately they are not always able to give the answer.
Searching for this retuned the answer as the fourth result.
I have no connection with VF. As far as I am aware there are no VF employees on this forum.

I think the problem is that while the xbox is in this low power/standby mode the router to continues using the same IP, which then goes past the release timeout on the dhcp server. Once the xbox wakes up it tries to continue using this ip without renewing it with the dhcp server. The ip is blocked until it's renewed by reconnecting.
Without an xbox I can't prove it but it's worth investigating the router logs to see if this rejection happens.
It's just a theory, but based on logic.

@Ripshod Just thinking out loud, but where does that leave the solution with a switch. Does the switch "hide" the low power indicator from the router?

@Cynric My guess is it keeps the connection alive

@Masters saved me some typing.
Even a dumb switch can do keep-alive 😁

I don't think that would make any difference, as the on the THG3000 each device seems to get the same I.P address every time, I imagine it's some algorithm based on it's MAC address.
However setting a fixed address on the xbox might make a difference, perhaps someone could try it. (I don't have an xbox myself)
In case anyone is wondering, the fact a switch overcomes the problem was discovered on page 4 by @ZinGeRs, although they didn't immediately realise that fact,

I'll see if I can borrow an xbox X and I'll run wireshark on a mirrored port. See what happens when it wakes.

Hi @Gemma I have also completed all those steps previously. Thanks
