Solution

YouTube terrible speed and buffering

I am on Vodafone fibre so just under a year and no problems getting 10mbps but over the last 5 days I am getting terrible performance on YouTube on wifi on all devices. It either buffers, doesn’t play video and occasionally I get a period of a few minutes with no problems.

I have rebooted router and reset firmware and spoke to  Vodafone but no solution. If I connect to mobile data all is good, and all other streaming video sites work fantastic and my wifi speed is always good. Any ideas?

I have also changed dns but no difference in performance , and I get the same poor speed via ethernet.

Very much the same problem here. Whether on PC or phone. Windows, Android, iOS - all give the same result. Youtube videos take 10-15s to start and frequently buffer during playback. Other sites work fine and my internet speed tests at around its normal 40Mbps down / 5Mbps up.

No solution yet, but watching...

Hi both! It's really odd that it's only happening with YouTube. We'd be happy to take a further look into your accounts with us. Please reach out to our Social Media team here to get started as we don't have account access via the forum

Interesting that you have the same problem, has it only recently happened?

I am based on Cirencester are you nearby or do you know any other people on Vodafone with a similar problem?

Spent over 1 hour with Vodaphone support to resolve but to no avail / not sure what else to try or to escalate further L

If it is only YouTube that is giving problems, have you tried using a different browser, and preferably one with an adblocker. If using a browser without it's own adblocker try using Adblock Plus .

If you aren't using a browser, what device are you using it on?

all devices on the wifi have the same problem be it pc tv or phone and I have no adblocking plugins installed

So is it O.K. on Ethernet?

No terrible regardless of Ethernet or wifi

Try a little experiment. Download Opera browser on PC, and turn its VPN on and try YouTube on that. See if it improves.
