Solution

YouTube terrible speed and buffering

Alecmac007
4: Newbie

I am on Vodafone fibre so just under a year and no problems getting 10mbps but over the last 5 days I am getting terrible performance on YouTube on wifi on all devices. It either buffers, doesn’t play video and occasionally I get a period of a few minutes with no problems.

I have rebooted router and reset firmware and spoke to  Vodafone but no solution. If I connect to mobile data all is good, and all other streaming video sites work fantastic and my wifi speed is always good. Any ideas?

@daern

If it's of any help a page or so back I spotted that the connection to Google servers gets stuck in a reset cycle when trying to download an app from the play store using Bluestacks (not sure how to troubleshoot from my phone).

I don't know an awful lot about parsing through Wireshark but if you know more than myself there seems to be some evidence in there of what's going wrong. Hoping this connection reset is the same issue for YouTube but who knows.

@daern - thanks for confirming this and that you're sending us the details  we've requested through Social Media

@jstott1070  - I'm sorry that you were refereed to our WiFi Xperts. This is usually the process for our Pro plan customers, although from when we've fed back the issues you're all facing, everyone in the Social Media team, as of 16 September have now been told what we need from our customers and who to send these examples to.

Please can you reach out to us again there and include a link to this post.

If there's anyone else viewing or posting here that hasn't contact us through Social Media yet, please can you get in touch with us there and again include a link to my post here.

@Gemma Thanks. I've now sent a pile of information through that channel. As this is obviously quite a subtle, technical issue I've also offered to be hooked up to your internal network engineering if they want any specific tests performing, or any additional diagnostic information. I've held off bombarding them with Wireshark pcap files at this point, as they won't mean much to anyone who isn't familiar with reading them!

It sounds like there's a few of us on on this thread who are pretty technical. I'd definitely consider taking up some of the offers being made to help you resolve this issue! 🙂

From last evening the YouTube issues seem to have been fixed. How’s everyone’s else connection now?

Mine is definitely not fixed.

Still having issues with youtube and updating google play apps.

Had a mountain of App updates, had to do them via my mobile data.

Google play and YouTube still broken for me.

No change for me.
