I everyone im new here!

I wonder if you are aware of the process of switching from virgin media online to vodaphone.

Is it a case of signing up via a broadband deal provider and they will do the rest or do I have to contact virgin also, please?

Many thanks

It's generally your new provider that will terminate your existing service. It's a case if just order and let them do the rest.

Except for Virgin, you will need to cancel yourself. Personally I would wait till the new service is up and running before cancelling.

Are you going FFTC or FTTP with Vodafone?

Hi there thank you both for your replies

Im just looking to get a basic package of some sort

Im not sure I understand what you mean about waiting, if I still have the equipment and the contract in place.

How would that work please?

Virgin are a cable supplier, Vodafone use copper BT/Openreach lines or fibre. It will be a complete new installation with Vodafone, the Virgin kit will stay in place.

It's just sometimes, when it is a new installation, there can be delays. So rather than risk downtime, don't cancel the Virgin until you are sure Vodafone is working.

Hi thanks you

So buy the Vodaphone package

wait till installed

Continue to pay for virgin

and then cancel.

My subscription is up on 17 aug with virgin

I guess I could order vodaphone for say early august

However I think virgin requires 30 days?

Or do u think that might not be relevant if you've completed a contract ?

Thanks in advance

Have you actually confirmed what Vodafone can offer you? It all depends on if you are in a FTTP (Full Fibre) area or not.

Stick your postcode in here and see what is available: Best Broadband Deals | Home Broadband | Vodafone

Once you know what is available, you can decide on the next step.

I wasn't aware of that, thanks. When I moved away from virgin to talktalk they dealt with it for me. Virgin died the same day TT went live.

You were lucky then, there is no requirement for the gaining ISP to cancel the previous one, except for FTTC services.

I recently moved from Virgin Media to Vodafone FTTP...

First, how you go about things will depend on whether or not you're a Virgin Media on-net or off-net customer. I was an on-net customer, meaning my services were supplied direct by Virgin Media via Coaxial cable. So, I had to speak to Virgin Media and provide them with 30 days notice (Vodafone can't do this). Cancelling and returning their hardware was a nightmare in itself (I made a post about it on their community forum, you can read it here).

What I chose to do was to give my 30 days notice to Virgin Media and then place an order for Vodafone FTTP. My earliest installation date was a two week wait. So, I had both Virgin Media and Vodafone for a period of two weeks, but I did this intentionally! If something went wrong with my installation or the service was poor I could have cancelled my Vodafone FTTP and called Virgin Media and cancelled my cancellation request and keep my Virgin Media broadband.

If you're an off-net customer (A Virgin Media customer who get's their internet via openreach) then in theory your Virgin Media service should close when your Vodafone service goes live.
