Aberdeen speed issue on fibre

The previous thread about the speed issues in Aberdeen seems to have disappeared.

For those of you that were suffering it, how are things now?

Since I've been moved off the Edinburgh gateway, things are fine for me now. I'm nervous to call it resolved though - I could be moved back to the Edinburgh one any day.

They've had me do a series of tests with no devices except a single ethernet cable attached to my router at set times of the day and send them screenshots the results, and some trace diagnostics from the router.

Hopefully they're getting closer to the problem now.

I like the way they're still acting like there's a problem on your end when it's evident they have a problem in their network somewhere.
If they want assistance from end users to trace issues why not ask some of us with the tech and ability to monitor speed tests without having to take time out of our day?!

For what it's worth mine has been stable at 900+ up and down since midnight Thursday on gateway 84.65.0.1.  Getting geolocated to Falmouth though, unsure whether that's down to the current IP I have or if it's the gateway location.

They needed it to be screenshots that show the router settings to prove nothing else was connected and that WiFi was turned off, so a little harder to script. All good though, it got me through to third line support.

I was almost certain it was related to the gateway, but my Dad is on the 500/500 package and is connected to the same gateway as me and didn't get issue at the same time as me (I'm on 900/900). Mystery!

Apparently I'm through to 3rd line support now, hopefully getting closer

Much closer. At least the people you're talking to are in the UK and have at least a basic understanding of networking

@dfunky 84.65.0.1 is the Bracknell gateway, proving the accuracy of Geolocation.

Apparently CityFibre acknowledge there's an issue and have received a lot of complaints about this issue happening in the evening. They say the infrastructure is overloaded, and they're working on an upgrade/fix, due to be complete in July. They're calling me tomorrow to tell me more details.

Low double digit DL speeds again tonight.. Any update on when VF will add the extra capacity on their infrastructure for Aberdeen users?

It was City Fibre that apparently need to fix the infrastructure. The 3rd line support people told me Vodafone don't have any infrastructure and rent it all from City Fibre and OpenReach.

They said the upgrades were due in July and that they privately acknowledged the issue. I asked if they'd publically acknowledge it somewhere, e.g., a "known issues" page, so I could track the progress. He said it won't be acknowledged publically anywhere, so my BS detectors are tingling. Note that the previous thread about this issue was almost a year old (which was mysteriously deleted), so I'm not holding my breath.

Best thing to do would be to keep up the pressure reporting the issue. I'd be really curious to see if they tell anyone else the same info about City Fibre. It could go some way to acknowledging it.

Just heard back for VF. Tech support confirmed what you said that cityfibre were in the process on doing a major upgrade on the local network infrastructure which should be completed in July. They are sending me a Wi-Fi booster for the moment at no extra cost which I can keep until the upgrade is complete.
