Landline phone with own router on FTTP

Just got FTTP and everything is working fine off the VF router. Phone lines are plugged into the VF router, VF router's WiFi is switched off. 3rd party Mesh has been switched to Bridge mode and plugged into the VF's ethernet port.

However I am shocked at how feature poor the VF router is. e.g. There are no Parental controls at all. I know I can get rid of the VF router and plug my own Mesh router into the Openreach ONT, but what about the Landline.

Are there any 3rd party routers in the market that have a telephone socket at the back to allow the home phone to be plugged in?

Hi,

is there any preference as to which is better to get whether ht801 or ht812 other than size, they are the same price.

Hi,

Finally got it working now.

Last thing as i have two voip ports for phone how do i allow the second port to be on the same VOIP line?  I used the vodafone router second voip port to connect to my alarm system but currently not sure if i need to do any other settings to allow this on HT.

Edit: If no option available i might get the RJ11 splitter instead.

Update: In case anyone requires above setup, i managed to setup hunt group which resolved above issue.

OK, so I thought I would give this a try myself. I just spent an hour on chat. Obviously, getting the broadband username and password was painless enough. I spoke to 3 advisors who all refused to give me the VOIP details.  I had read on the forum that you needed to raise a complaint to get them. I did say to them all that I may need to raise a complaint which would just be a waste of everyone's time as I knew for a fact that the details were being shared with customers.

One guy flatly refused. Another seemed like he wanted to give them but his supervisor stopped him. The wifi expert told me that he had given the details out in the past but had now been told not to do so.

Those people who actually got the VOIP details, did you have to actually raise a complaint, or was the threat of that enough?

Hi,

I just got it via chat going through the below team, no issues.

https://www.vodafone.co.uk/bbservcd/

I told them i am having issues with features on Voda supplied router and need to use my own router hence needed my PPPOE details and below details.

SIP_LINE1_PASSWORD : *************
SIP_LINE1_URI : *********
SIP_LINE1_USERNAME : **********
SIP_OUTBOUND_PROXY : **********
SIP_REGISTRAR_SERVER : **********

Thanks. yes I told them a similar story. Maybe I got a miserable one!

I'll keep trying.

I had to raise a complaint but they did ring me back within 24 hours and happily gave them to me, your advisor was correct they are not supposed to give the information out freely I guess not all advisors run the risk of a bad rating.

The guy who rang was great even emailed a full copy of everything

I have a partial success. My HT801 is registered and I can receive incoming calls with two way audio. Ironically after trying all the different proxy servers in this thread before the one I was given (xbn.Z4.bbvoice.vodafone.co.uk, which I assumed was actually in error) gave me success.

I only need to fix one thing - outgoing calls give me the disconnect tone. Any thoughts?

Nevermind. I missed the SIP User Agent - D'OH!!!

All working sweet as a nut.

EDIT:

I've shared my final configuration on Google Drive for anyone who may need it. I'm off to spread the word.

Thanks for sharing this. I have copied your settings as far as the end of the jpeg except the dial plan which is longer that the box! I still cant get mine to register. I'm wondering about my setup which is an ASUS RT-AC86U into a Draytec Vigor 130 modem. I'm also using a Pi-Hole. The static DNS settings in my HT801 are the Vodafone DNSs.

I tried the system with just the VF router set to default and nothing connected and the phone worked then.

Needing help as I'm in danger of fettling too far...

🙄🙄🙄

@Splodgeink Try someone's else for DNS, e.g. 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare) and 8.8.8.8 (Google). Vodafone's DNS is a bit flaky.
