Landline phone with own router on FTTP

Just got FTTP and everything is working fine off the VF router. Phone lines are plugged into the VF router, VF router's WiFi is switched off. 3rd party Mesh has been switched to Bridge mode and plugged into the VF's ethernet port.

However I am shocked at how feature poor the VF router is. e.g. There are no Parental controls at all. I know I can get rid of the VF router and plug my own Mesh router into the Openreach ONT, but what about the Landline.

Are there any 3rd party routers in the market that have a telephone socket at the back to allow the home phone to be plugged in?

Just ordered an HT802 (FB Marketplace) to pair with my Asus RT-AC86U.   Are there any gotchas I need to look out for?  FTTP being installed at the end of the month.

If you've read through this thread then you've already seen about the niggly little errors that will kill the connection. All I will say is be methodical and search this thread if you get errors.

Main thing from me is to make sure you set the vodafone dns servers if you alter the defaults on the router (dns director on the asus will do this for you)

I am also having this 407 Proxy Authentication Required issue.  Have just moved to Vodafone from Virgin Media and have had my landline ported.  Which works fine when using the Vodafone router.

My set up is dedicated router (running opnsense) directly connected to the ONT, it has multiple NIC's, so using a dedicated NIC just for the ATA, which is Grandstream HT801 (updated with latest firmware v1.0.43.11).  All set-up using the settings in this thread, and 5065 10000 port forwarded, and outbound set to static in opnsense.  I have a static IP with Vodafone.  Supplier is City Fibre if that makes any difference.

I've asked for the dynamic variables for my landline from Vodafone twice now, once via online chat and once the support number - both matched, so hopefully they are correct.

From the SIP File output on the Grandstream it is just stuck in a loop of:

outgoing - REGISTER

incoming -100 Trying

incoming - 407 Proxy Authentication Required

and won't register.

I'm fine not having a landline, so not the end of the world if I can't get it to work.

Anyone else having an issue with their Grandstream adapter this morning? My phone has worked fine for months. This morning I noticed one of the lights on the Grandstream was not lit. This has happened before but rebooting the adapter fixes it.

Not today. I have rebooted the adapter and the router but the phone doesn't register. I have not changed any of the settings.

I'm getting a "503 service unavailable" response on one account. The other remains connected without any issue. Hopefully a temporary problem.

Hopefully. I'll try the VF router a little later when I get some time. Everything else it working fine so it's not urgent.

Looks like it is working again. Unable to test now but showing as registered.

Yes mine is back too.

EDIT: It worked for a few minutes and has gone again. Looks like it's at Vodafone's end.

Edit 2: The phone has stayed registered for a while so hopefully that's the end of the issue.

@ennui I had the same issue.  Turns out they can't tell the difference between a lower case l (lima) and a capital I (India) on their screens at the call centre - so they gave me the incorrect password on the first 3 occasions.  Plenty of wasted hours thinking it was a problem with my setup and trying different things!

Next time you speak to them, ask them to text or email you the details - only at this stage did they work out the correct password as the font changed when they copied and pasted into the email!!!

 Mine is still down..
