Landline phone with own router on FTTP

Just got FTTP and everything is working fine off the VF router. Phone lines are plugged into the VF router, VF router's WiFi is switched off. 3rd party Mesh has been switched to Bridge mode and plugged into the VF's ethernet port.

However I am shocked at how feature poor the VF router is. e.g. There are no Parental controls at all. I know I can get rid of the VF router and plug my own Mesh router into the Openreach ONT, but what about the Landline.

Are there any 3rd party routers in the market that have a telephone socket at the back to allow the home phone to be plugged in?

Are you seeing traffic from addresses other than your laptop?

OH yes! Loads with no filter. Filtering to UDP brings up a lot too, but no SIP! 😓

Apply a filter just to isolate the traffic to/from the 801.

From memory, you should see outbound dns look ups and then the 801 will try to register with the SIP servers in turn.

I have some grabs at home when I was looking at it, but I'm not back until tomorrow night.

If the sip servers already have a valid registration ongoing, they don't respond.

I'll take a look tomorrow and see what I can extract, if you don't have it sorted.

Thanks. I'm getting the arp registration from the HT801 and http requests, but zilch else. I've ordered an 812 to try. One will be returned!

I can see two settings which are different to what worked for me (on BT Openreach):
Enable SIP Options/notify keep alive: Options
Use P-Access-Network-Info Header: Yes (this was a default setting)
In your configuration they are both set to NO.
This post has links to the original advice from those who first cracked this as well as the settings that worked for me and why https://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Landline/Landline-phone-with-own-router-on-FTTP/m-p/2723154/highligh...
I would suggest going back to basics and check all of your set up carefully (including on your router).

Is anything odd here:

Changing to bridge mode made no difference, although changing the firmware update server info seemed to change things - I now have a flashing ethernet port!!!

The person I chatted with today flat refused to give me any credentials.  I guess I will have to try again / escalate.  My landline line got switched off today.

I've now got my credentials and have a dial tone.  When I try and make a call, I get "The number you have dialled has not been recognized".  If I call the number, it just rings - but my line doesn't - nor can I pick it up.

Had a cabling issue.  It seems to be working now (phew).  Just waiting for a static IP and hopefully will be set then.

Hi @Luciftian, thanks for all your info in this thread about the HT812, it's really helped me make up my mind that it's probably the ATA I need (having just moved to FTTP (openreach) and needing a solution so I can avoid the vodafone hardware).

I've been studying your settings, and the screenshot you've shared of your settings is great, thank you.
Only thing I can't see on it is where to enter our Username (voi000xxx) and password - are those on a different page with the 812, compared to the 801?

Apart from that, hopefully I'll be able to duplicate the settings and get my landline number back asap.

Thanks again :Smiling:

So I have managed to get my HT801 working following all these posts. The phone rings and I can answer and I can make outbound calls.

The only issue is that if someone phones and the DECT answer phone kicks in they can leave the message but then when they hang up it keeps recording the message as just a beep.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
