Landline phone with own router on FTTP

Just got FTTP and everything is working fine off the VF router. Phone lines are plugged into the VF router, VF router's WiFi is switched off. 3rd party Mesh has been switched to Bridge mode and plugged into the VF's ethernet port.

However I am shocked at how feature poor the VF router is. e.g. There are no Parental controls at all. I know I can get rid of the VF router and plug my own Mesh router into the Openreach ONT, but what about the Landline.

Are there any 3rd party routers in the market that have a telephone socket at the back to allow the home phone to be plugged in?

I'm using an edgerouter which doesn't have an out of the box DMZ, but I've made a firewall rule that *I think* is effectively the same thing and tried both WAN and LAN ports and still no joy.

@mdbloomfield so can we add the GXP1625 to the list of devices confirmed working?

Just a shame it's not DECT.

Having started this topic and now that we know we have working configurations, here are some different questions.

How long has a working configuration continued to work?

Have people who had working configurations suddenly find that things stopped working.

What has been the biggest issue that causes a working configuration to stop working?

For us the landline is used rarely and mostly for emergencies. I don't want to ever be in a situation where someone tries to call, or we want to use the phone and it doesn't work.

Ours still works fine. Not used often but received a call last week with no issues.

Never have any reason to check it tbh. Every time my mum wants to call she gets straight through no bother. Only ever made one outgoing call.

VoIP and especially an unsupported solution should never be relied upon for emergencies. Vodafone can change any parameter at any time which can break unsupported solutions, coupled with the reliance on power.., I would call this type of solution more a “nice to have” and not something you should rely on for emergencies.

I don't think any of us rely on voip at all, not even with vodafone's router (also reliant on power). For me this is just an exercise, a method of getting away from vodafone's restrictions and having some control back. I explained way, way back in this thread that I wasn't even bothered about the landline.

I was referring to the below which seems to indicate otherwise….

@RipshodGXP1625 working fine, I think just the slight renaming of the settings threw me off immediately but otherwise was quite straight forward. I use a Draytek modem (I'm on SoGEA broadband) & Ubiquiti Amplifi router with port forwarding to an internal static IP address. For me the landline is a nice to have so doesn't matter that it's not DECT
