I'm due to move house at the end of this month (hopefully!) but outside of my current exchange area (0161).
I will move my existing broadband contract with Vodafone to the new property. That will need to be against a new number with a different area code. What I'm hoping I can do is port my existing number to a VOIP provider, who I use with my business. That will then allow me to retain the use of my current landline number that I've had for 40 years. I understand that when a porting request goes through, any services against that number will cease. This should be OK, given I'd need the Vodafone broadband service to be applied to another number anyway.
This should all be technically possible, but has anyone done similar?
Thanks.

Hi @Wardy5 😊 How exciting! I hope the home move goes smoothly 🏠
Could you get contact with our Home Moves team on 0333 304 0191 or if you have a Small Business account call 0808 060 0802? You'll need to give us 30-days notice to move your services and follow these steps before calling to make sure you have everything you need.

Thanks for the reply Evie, I'm obviously aware of the Home Moves team. The question is of the additional step of the porting of the existing landline number to a 3rd party VOIP provider. Are you saying that I should discuss this as part of a Move Teams discussion and they'd have experience in that area?
Given that their standard messaging is that if you move your Vodafone Broadband service outside of area, you'll loose the number! That's exact step I want to avoid happening...
The requirement for 30 days' notice is also not practicable at this present time. If you are having customers giving successful 30 days notice, I'd be very surprised! Given the issues of house moving in the Covid era.

Ahh okay, thank you for clarifying @Wardy5. So you're wanting to keep your Vodafone broadband when moving house but port your landline number to a VOIP provider? Can I ask what third-party VOIP provider this is?

Exactly.
VOIP 3rd party is Sipgate. So I'll need a CUPID code to be supplied from you as well.
Should I still be talking to your House Moves team about this??

I'd definitely recommend speaking to the home moves team @Wardy5, they are the best team to give you all the answers here. We can't port out an inactive line, so if this can be done, it'd need to be done at the same time as your home move.

hi @Wardy5
Hope you home move went ok?
I'm in the process of trying to port my home number of 35 years to Sipgate, ahead of FTTP/FTTH
arriving in my area. I want to have maximum choice of Broadband providers and so wanted to seperate
my home phone number (the one everyone uses) from my Brodaband connection.
I've been a Sipgate user for many years, think they're great. Being able to access my home number on
my and my wifes mobile, would be a real boon too...
So I was wondering how the VoIP port went?
I have the Sipgate port forms filled in in front of me here... but I have sudden trepidation that it could
all go wrong. In particular that Sipgate could accidentally cancel my Broadband account and I get
disconnected.
Are you all nicely connected in your new house with Vodaone broadband and a Sipgate VoIP account
with your old home number on it? Is there any thing I should watch out for?
Best regards, fleddy
