Shared landline phone numbers

We joined Vodafone in April when we had fibre installed and took a fibre and landline contract. We carried over our existing phone number. It took a couple of weeks for Vodafone to get the phone to work going through their technical helpdesk, they had to do something at their end to get the router phone light to come on. Then everything was good. In July we found they had then given our phone number to another customer so phones at both houses were ringing and whoever got to it first could answer the call. This took a few weeks with the technical helpdesk to sort but we then found a second customer had also been given our phone number, again some to time to sort. Everything then seemed good until last night when we found a third customer had been given our phone number over a month ago and again whoever gets to the phone first can answer the call. In all these cases our bills include calls made by the other customers. I do not know what is shown on the other peoples' bills. We are in Lincoln, have a Lincoln phone code but the other people have been in Milton Keynes, Ashford and now I think Cornwall.

Has this happened to anybody else and if so how was it sorted ? If it continues to happen I will need to leave Vodafone but not many companies offer a landline.

Hi @paulh-12, thanks for getting in touch about this - I can understand your concern and it must be really frustrating for this to be now happening again for a third time.

We really need to investigate this further to not only fix it, but to also to see what's causing it and to prevent it from happening again in the future.

Please come and chat to my team via social media, and if you remember to provide a link to your post then you won't need to explain things again.

I do not use social media so I am unable to chat this way.

@paulh-12 - It's not good to hear what's happening with your landline. We need to take your account details securely.

With you not having Social Media - please contact us through 191 free from a Vodafone mobile or 03333 040 191 from a different phone. We're also available through Live Chat

I can not believe this but Vodafone seem to have given our phone number to possibly another 2 people again which would make at least 5 other people being given our number in the last 9 months. On our latest bill there are calls which have not been made by me to numbers in Louth, Liverpool, Newton-le-Willows, the Yorkshire Ambulance Service and there are charges now appearing for Age Concern's personal alarm service.

I have phoned our landline number and somebody answered who had just joined Vodafone, she lives in Louth, she uses Age Concern so the charges are hers. I can not imagine her using a dentist in Newton-le-Willows or a builders in Liverpool. I tried to contact Vodafone through their chat system but need a real person to talk to. I wish I had never joined Vodafone and can not wait for the 24 month contract to run out.

@Gemma gave you a number to call. Personally I would use 08080 034 515.

You can also raise a complaint, and they should contact you back.

Jayach, thank you for your help, it gives me some options to try.
