If you get a VoIP phone, you will need to get a VoIP service to go with it.

Are you using the Vodafone router?

Yes, a vodaphone router (received a month ago).

I've transfered my landline number to Vodafone

Not having much luck with old land line phones, although I'm going to try a newer ne (borrowed from a friend).

Tried an adaptor ( waiting for one from Vodafone) and a couple of other cables.

So looking for a simple VOIP phone to use with my router/landline number

Is the '"phone" light on the router white? If it' s not you'll be chasing your tail to get any phone to connect, and it's likely your phone number hasn't been transfered properly. If it is lit then a proper adapter (as vf are sending you) should get you working. Any DECT or or otherwise modern phone will be compatible.

Do you want to keep your landline number? Without getting all your voip details from vf you've no chance of getting a voip phone/ata working anyway. That in itself can be an uphill struggle.

The light is off, Id assumed it should be on to show the service was actice

I did quiz  one of the Vodafone chatters about that, who said you'd need a handset connected for it to light up.

And they said the settings had  been setup for voip

Not 100% convinced on some of the replies.

The phone led indicates a digital phone service to the router, whether a phone is plugged in or not.

Have you tried connecting the phone with the dsl/modem lead? I believe this is what's recommended in the latest instructions. There is an image of this somewhere on the forums but it's busy as a bee hive here right now.

Thanks for the reply

I thought the light should be on to show the service. But an advisor said it needed a phone connected

The leaflet that came is a bit brief

I did try the 'internet' cable plugged into the tel port and direct into the phone, but nowt

The advisor said I needed an adaptor, not sent with the kit, but are now sending one.

I still suspect that everything hasn't been done 100%

Thanks for the reply and enjoy the rest of the day

Time for a fried breakfast!
