Have you not asked Vodafone for one? they should supply it.
I notice the setup instructions (linked earlier) have a button to order the adapter, but it doesn't work for me. (possibly because I'm not on digital voice)
Strangely the button is only available if you follow the setup instructions for an FTTC connection, not the FTTP connection, but then we are talking about Vodafone.

I've been onto them and all I get is it's, "you're phone isn't compatible, get another and try that", attitude stinks, if it' doesn't improve I'll shop around again when contract is coming up for renewal

Actually not all the adapters you may buy will have the ring capacitor, but then most phones no longer need it. (it's mostly BT ones that do)
In those cases, you can use a DSL filter to provide the ring signal.

That adapter does have the capacitor. The fact that the call gets to the router, but the answerphone doesn't react, tells me the capacitor is needed. Yes can use the dsl filter, but still needs an adapter (as you demonstrate).

But @Mug62 says they don't have a dial tone, so it's not just a missing ring capacitor, there is no connection between the TEL sockets and the phone. (which is why they need to use the originally fitted phone cable not a DSL cable)

The adapter linked has all 4 pins connected, on both ends.
Not sure how that will help, the TEL sockets only have 2 pins, but then we have had the 2pin/4pin discussion before.
