The adapter I'm talking about plugs into either of the TEL sockets that let's you plug a standard BT connector in, and provides the 'ring' signal. Without that signal the phone/answerphone won't know anyone is calling.
NOT the DSL filter.

do you have pictures as when I looked at the adaptor that was suggested I purchase needs plugging into the old socket, I've had an engineer out and he says it doesn't need any type of adaptor??????????????????? CONFUSED

Look at the picture again. It has an rj11 plug and a bt socket. Look at the TEL ports on the router, they're rj11 sockets (for the rj11 plug). That will leave you with a bt socket to plug the answerphone into.
Not all engineers actually know, or can work out this stuff.

Moral of this story, never trust an Openreach engineer. (or Vodafone support)

I'm so glad I don't work directly for openreach.
The vodafone comment I 100% agree with.

I will pass the info onto our friend who works for openreach and he can inform them so, hopefully, all their engineers will know what is needed, VP have been informed also and have said they will pass info onto tech2team and ensure adaptors are provided with all hubs, only time will tell haha
