Solution

4G mobile broadband Strict Nat

Hello was wondering if someone would be able to help.

have recently purchased a 50gb a month mobile broadband package and am looking to use it for my Xbox one among other things. However, when connecting it seems I have a Strict NAT type meaning that joining/hosting games is pretty much impossible at times. Is there anyway of obtaining a public IP address or another workaround to enable me to open up my NAT type? I also have a Tp link MR200 router.

thanks

Hi, both ps5 and Xbox series x show up as strict.

I spend a lot of time last night trying everything  I could think of to get it to be a bit more open.

But if the rest of this thread is still true it looks like some kind of vpn is the only way.

Thank you for confirming that @Bigady - Could you attach a picture of the NAT type that is showing on these devices please? Is this mainly effecting your ability to online game and/or join party chats?

What mobile broadband device do you have, or are you using your mobile hotspot?

Hi, so taking xbox as an example. it says UPNP Unsuccesful - NAT type STRICT

I am using a Huawei B535-235 in bridge mode with a Netgear Orbi RBR 50 consisting of one main router and 2 satellites.  The Xbox is connected via ethernet.

Thanks

Hello,

Is there any update to this? I'm also having this issue with my Xbox One.

The NAT type is strict and it means I am unable to join or host some games and chat doesn't work properly with many players.

I have setup port forwarding on my Huawei B535 but still getting the strict NAT setting. Quite frustrating that there doesn't seem to be a solution from Vodafone.

Morning.

My understanding is that due to the technology involved in providing mobile data it is not possible to resolve this without using vpn tunnel or similar.

But someone might be along to prove me wrong.

Thanks Bigady,

I guess I'll be researching "how to use VPN tunnel with Xbox" then 👍

Hi guys! To get this investigated, please pop our Social Media team a message with a link to this thread and we'll be able to get your account to the right team 🙂

Sadly, the Social Media team wont be able to do anything. While this is a thread revival, nothing has moved forward since the thread was started, and its not looking likely it'll be changing anytime soon. This isn't vodafone's fault, all the other carriers are the same - although i think if you're on Three, you can change the APN(from the default one) and it'll give a Moderate(or better) NAT.

You're only options are to wait till they start using IP6 - but we're talking years and years.

Or as mentioned, use a vpn, which will give a performance hit. This would need to be set up at the router end or via some hotspot. It sucks, but playing any game is better than no games.

That's a shame. I've been happy using a 4g router up until I wanted to use it for gaming.

Time to bite the bullet and go with an actual fiber connection.

Thanks

feels kind of useless asking for help on this issue three years after this was posted but I'm looking for a way around this as I was also promised my hotspot would work for online gaming
