Terrible signal at STANSTED AIRPORT

Rye1
4: Newbie

Can anyone shed any light on the absolutely awful signal for both data and calls at Stansted Airport?

H and 4G signal shows up, as do 3 bars in the phone reception, but calls are almost impossible, and any data usage is either non-existant (usually the case) or so bad that you just have to give up.

I'm especially griped as I tested the signal last year before going full time Vodafone (using my 1 month trial period) the signal worked fine so I signed up on a contract. I also got my other half to change from EE only to find that now the signal(s) are so atrocious as to be worthless. I had been on Three with similar problems (signal showing as available but unusable data) and really liked the Vod package, but I may have to go back to EE as it is so bad and I use the airport frequently..

Any ideas if this is temporary (going on for 6 months now) or simply lack of bandwidth/EU travelers roaming/network blocking?

The Stansted official wifi (run by Virgin) is hellish too as browsers won't allow connection and email servers simply block everything...

Thanks if anyone has any insights as it's a massive pain!

I've checked our Network Status Checker and we can only guarantee a 3G service whilst outdoors in the CM24 1RW area @Rye1, our 2G and 4G services are stronger. The mast serving this area (number: 15145) is working as expected and has experienced no outages recently. Our troubleshooting guide can help with difficulty connecting to our network. If the initial steps don’t resolve your query, please complete the template in step six and one of our Network Specialists will be in touch.

Dear Mr moderator,

I agree with the original poster on this thread: The Vodafone signal at Stansted is terrible. I am a pilot that operates regularly from the airport and myself and my colleagues with Vodafone cannot get a signal. It shows on our phone we have a signal with 4G however it is impossible to make a call and download data. So I wonder if you might send your engineer to the airport to confirm our common experience. I’m sure your company wants to represent itself well at the third largest airport in the country. Kind regards

Could not agree more. I am a regular business traveller out of Stansted.  Once in the terminal data is completely inaccessible, despite a supposed 4G signal.  Once the plane has taxied far enough away from the terminal - data is back.!  This is not an exaggeration. Our company has been in touch with Vodafone previously   But no resolution has been found. I was back at Stansted on Weds and experienced exactly the same problems.

Thanks @conroy67 for your confirmation about this - and from a pilot too, which should add some degree of substance.

Many of us rely on good communications for work, and surely in a location like Stansted Airport should be adequately served?  Imagine if there were an emmergency or an urgently required response, then such an unusable service is just simply unacceptable - especially from a serious network providor like Vodafone.

I will fill out the section that Mark (the moderator) suggested, but am not holding my breath. He mentioned that 4G was a stronger signal, but even when in the terminal, I do get a 4G 'signal' showing in the status bar, but alas, a completely unusable data connection.

Something is clearly not working here. Come on Vodafone, such an important location absolutely requires at least a 'usable' service - there are safety implications here as well.

For the record - I did post the 'form' that Mark suggested as a new thread title beginning "CM24.....".

This has however been deleted, so I can only assume this was deemed a 'double post'.

I look forward to hearing back in due course. I'm obviously not the only one experiencing the same issue..

I'm sorry to hear you've had difficulty posting the template as rquested @Rye1. We only remove posts that go against our Community Guidelines. Please complete the template again and we'll be happy to investigate this for you.

To help our Network Specialists complete their investigations into the service available at Stanstead @conroy67, could you also complete the steps in our Troubleshooting guide.

Mark - I've tried multiple times to post the form on an new thread, but each time it is taken down. It appears briefly, but when I click on it, it says at the top that it is "spam". Initially I posted it with a link to this thread, but checked the guidelines which said not to post links. I've since re-posted it with NO links (and nothing esle 'not allowed') and it still gets deleted.

Please can you advise as how best to have this signal issue at Stansted Airport looked at?

Thanks.

Mark

@Rye1 @conroy67 I've asked the question about this area and have been informed we're aware of a speed issue. Our teams are working to resolve this, but sadly have no timescales to report back yet due to the complex nature of deployments in airport locations.

Rye1 - I've moved your template to this thread just to keep everything in one place 🙂
