4G Speed Boost??

flashforward
4: Newbie

Something VERY weird happend on the way home this evening. On the train betwen Radyr and Llandaf (south Wales) and downloaded an app over 4G (162MB). The app downloaded in about 1 second. Amazed at the speed, I did a speed test (openspeedtest, which is always reliable) and it read as 95MB!! I ran the speed test again and it peaked at 125MB.

Whilst this may sound impossible, can anyone explain how this happened? I was not connected to Wi-Fi - this was purely 4G...

Hi @flashforward

Can you upload a screenshot of your speed test.

Where i am in a main city in West Yorkshire I get quite good speeds too.

Just a wild guess but it may have been an engineer conducting tests on the masts you passed or it was just a fluke.

I didn't think to take a screen shot at the time. I'll try again tomorrow 😆

I use the Ookla Speedtest App to check on download , upload and ping stats.

This app keeps a record of my speedtest stats within it.

School holidays, fewer work users travelling, less bandwidth contention perhaps?  I can get a parking space anytime at my local station in August, no chance after 8.30 normally.

Try again mid September and see if its still magic.
