Hello, I was chatting with an agent named as “Komal”. He was asking for my name, sort code and account number, I found this a little suspicious and didn’t hand them over.
Is he allowed to do that or was I right not to hand them over?
I had took this from the transcript.
Komal : please confirm your
Account name
sort code a
Account number
Thank you.

Unless you were setting up a new account, Vodafone shouldn't be asking for bank account information. If you were trying to set up a direct debit or make a payment this can be done here: How do I pay my bill?
I would contact the Social Team through social channels and ask for an explanation: here: Contact Us

It was regarding setting up a pay promise for a certain date, I was unsure of giving them over so I didn’t.

If you don't already have a direct debit set up @ChristopherHugh the promise to pay payment would be requested from the bank by direct debit on the promise to pay date and that would most likely be the reason.
You can set up a direct debit yourself with the bank from the 'How do I pay my bill?' link. The next time you contact Vodafone to set up the promise to pay, the advisor would be able to see there is a direct debit in place.
