Solution

2 of my 4 devices are not picking up the wifi signal upstairs

I can only connect to wifi on my HP laptop and Sonos speaker if they are downstairs close to the router, even then it keeps dropping out after about 20-30 minutes. The router is located at the bottom of the stairs and this is a small 2 bed house. The laptop picks up all my neighbours wifi but not my own.

The 2 devices that do connect to wifi upstairs are a surface pro I use for work and my mobile phone. The signal has been somewhat reliable on these 2 devices, but I did have some drop outs today on both of those devices.

I first plugged the router in on Tuesday around 7pm so it's been almost 3 days now. It is not near a TV, radiator, or phone etc.

The problem is very much one that all of the regulars on here recognise, but due to the way the router has been over-zealously locked down, it's almost impossible for users to fix.  Even if VF support remotely fixes the issue there is no guarantee that it'll stay fixed.

The idea of locking down the router is to stop users from doing stupid things.  Unfortunately, it's been implemented in such a manner that it also stops users from doing necessary things!

It gets worse when you find Vodafone licenses a technology that is supposed to automatically spot and fix such issues.

*Rant over - it'd be real nice if VF were to ever talk with their users rather than talk at them!

So they know it's not going to be fixed with a replacement router and that is why they refuse to send one? They just string you along .................................................................................... fk it I'm cancelling the contract and going back to BT

Save yourself the headaches and just buy one of these...

On the new hubs they removed the option to seperate the 2.4 and 5ghz frequency.

@pablothegirl It's the age-old problem whereby a serious issue is seen as a benefit by the time it's reported upstream.  Without a support champion who is listened to (and can be contacted) there is little prospect of such issues ever getting fixed unless they reach a point where they are actually breaking Vodafone's own network.

*At least we no longer seem to see experimental changes being pushed onto the live network the way we used to a few years back!

CONCLUSION:
They finally agreed to send me a new router and it works!
All that hassle and time wasted battling to get a replacement router.
