Hi. I have a fast, working gigafast connection using the supplied VF router. However, it is missing some functionality that I require for home users, eg DNS settings via DHCP server, plus a load of stuff I can't do for work, such as vlans.
I have tried to configure my old Draytek 2950n which has a wan side connection via ethernet. Plugged it into CPE, entered the PPOE username and password. But getting 'no response from server'. Have tried vlan 101 and 2000 but same result. Anyone got any suggestions?
Thanks
Solved! Go to best answer.

3rd line have come through with some additional and essential info! Need to be on vlan 911 to get a connection.

What your router says anyway?

Router just says no connection for internet with no log events...
I've spoken to support team and Gigafast team who have both given the exact same details... Will call them again another day see if the details change!

Hey Shaqesparon
I had the same router working on the Vodafone Gigafast in Milton Keynes before I upgraded to the XR500.
Sounds like you have all the same settings that I used.
What I would do is reset to factory settings and make sure you have the lastest firmware update just to make sure there is no bugs stopping it from working. (sorry if you have already tried this)
Hope you work this out. From my dealings with the Gigafast support if you go 3rd party router your on your own.

Agree with above, if I remember correctly I had to do factory reset.

I have tried a factory reset but i will try it again tonight and see how it goes.
Thanks for all the support guys!

Getting username and password via email or chat window has been known to solve these problems before

Hi all
I've just had VD gigafast installed and I'm struggling to get my to link VR2800 router to work in place of the VF one, has anyone set up this model router on gigafast?
Any and all ideas and input very welcome.
Many thanks

We briefly had to turn off the power to the house today, and when the power came back on the Vodafone Gigafast router did not. It seems to be endlessly power cycling itself, never making a connection. Honestly it's been nothing but trouble since we got it... WiFi would randomly drop out, and sometimes the entire connection would drop until the router was restarted. I've been using separate OpenWRT access points for WiFi for the past few months.
After 40mins of the usual waste of time diagnostics like changing the ethernet cable, the person on the phone told me they'd be sending a new router, which is fine, but that it would take 2 days to arrive... and I work from home. I asked if I could have the details to set up my own router in the meantime. They said no. It wasn't possible on Gigafast. There are too many configuration details to send, and the fibre connection is so new that no other router on the market supports it.
Thankfully... I found this forum post.
So after getting my PPPoE details from the very helpful person on live chat (Akshay) I finally managed to work out how to setup OpenWRT to work on VLAN 911, and I wanted to post the configuration here in case anyone else might need it. I am running a BT Home Hub 5A. I only get about 140mbps, it can't handle the full speed, but it will perfectly well tide me over. I may well buy a new one rather than use the Vodafone replacement, we'll see.
You can basically set up the WAN interface the same as you would for VDSL, except the problem is that if you use dsl0.911 as a custom interface it doesn't use the red WAN port. The solution is to set up a new VLAN on the Network->Switch page, with the ID 911, and both the CPU and the WAN port set to tagged.
Then set up the WAN interface to use the new VLAN under Physical Settings, input the PPPoE details as usual on the General Setup page, reboot and you should be good to go!
