3rd party router on Gigafast in Milton Keynes

Hi. I have a fast, working gigafast connection using the supplied VF router. However, it is missing some functionality that I require for home users, eg DNS settings via DHCP server, plus a load of stuff I can't do for work, such as vlans.

I have tried to configure my old Draytek 2950n which has a wan side connection via ethernet. Plugged it into CPE, entered the PPOE username and password. But getting 'no response from server'. Have tried vlan 101 and 2000 but same result. Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi. Im desperate for help.

I also have Asus 86U and I'm struggling to get it connected. Could you please help me ?

Please check attachment, at the moment I'm stuck at invalid account or password.

Best regards.

Hi Mark, could you please share your settings and steps you took to make your Asus router work? I have a Asus ax11000 new router and would like to use it for my Gigafast which is scheduled for installation soon, at present I am with Vodafone FTTC and my router works fine, I tried to look for vlan setup options but couldn't find anything. Appreciate any help and information you could share.

Kind regards,

Manas.

Hi Manas. Setup shoukd be easy. Only VF specific parts are the vlan of 911 and your own account PPoE credentials

Hi, I have had gigafast installed a few weeks back. I've had constant drop outs and since changing to my Netgear D6400 it's been spot on.
apart from the speeds, im signed up to the 500mbps package but I'm not getting that speed at all, it's very erratic and even with the VF router when working I couldn't get those speeds.

would there be a setting within my Netgear router I need to change to achieve those speeds at all?

You testing those speeds on a wired connection or wireless? Despite the manufacturers claiming 1000mbps+ on wireless ac, if you look up benchmarks in reviews the real speeds are way lower. I have the 500mbps package too, and I easily get 550mbps on a D-Link DIR-882 using a wired connection, but only 250ish on WiFi. (Note I don't recommend this router... I have been getting connection drops in online games which are driving me nuts so I've ordered a Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X, finally separating the router from the WiFi for good.)

The other thing is to make sure any QoS/similar settings are disabled, very unlikely the CPU can handle that at full speed. If I enable QoS on my D-Link then even the wired speeds drop to 250 or below, and that's on the highest priority devices.

Hi thanks for the reply, this is on a wired device.

i shall have a look at QOS

when you say separating your modem and wireless intake it your current set up is a modem router?

tye D6400 is a modem router all in one so if I were to look at this would I have to get a separate modem and then a separate router?
I thought for a while the actual ONT box did the modem part

This is the qos page in my set up

Also which I'm finding strange is my upload when tested on both routers I may add is around the 500mbps number but it's always the download I'm having issues with.

the test on my wired laptop for example I've just done is as follows

download 149mbps

upload 538mbps

So what download speeds to you get late at night or very early in the morning when there are fewer users and so less traffic?

Around the same at best 200mbps. I do however in the early afternoon sometimes get around 400mbps. There's only 3 of us in the house and when I do these tests no one else is using the internet at all
