*Botched* CityFibre install + error messages on the router log.

I had Full Fibre 900 installed on the 17th by Cityfibre. My FTTC came in through the pole in the back but the installer said they need to come in via the street cab which is located outside the next door neighbours house. Not an ideal location because it would be in the bedroom instead of the livingroom but I'd simply get an extender or whatever to spread the signal elsewhere via the home.

They 'installed' it, then went away & told me the connection would be up & running shortly & I would then switch over to Vodafone wifi when the old Plusnet signal went down.

I've had a few people come in to inform me that someone set a fire outside the hedge. Upon looking, it was the CityFibre install. Looks like they struggled to drill through the tar, which created friction, so they gave up & simply put it in & through the hedge, leaving the cable exposed. Yesterday, the garden guy came in to do his stuff but refused because of the open cable.

Here is some pics: 1) The duct outside which has the bare cable coming up & over the stone that the hedge is sat upon. It's 'protected' by a few inchest of corrugated channel or whatever it is. The second pic is the bare cable through the hedge where the corrugated channel ends. The 3rd pic is the bare cable exiting the hedge over a bit of soil before going into the dug channel across the front garden grass. This channel is very shallow & maybe 2/3 inches deep (at least in parts).

I've also been suffering some buffering when trying to stream but figured the connection was settling & would take 7/10 days like FTTC but upon looking, it seems that is not the case with FTTP. Can someone have a look at this small exert from the log & tell me if this may be what's causing it:

Any advice on what to do. Would it be possible to get a proper re-install be that via the overhead pole if required.

Thanks, Cath.

We'll need to wait for your images to be moderated before we can see the install.

The drop messages in your logs are normal messages from the firewall when it drops a connection - that's what firewalls do. Don't worry about IPv6 messages - these just mean you don't have IPv6.

The other messages from the logs are meaningless to me without the preceding and following messages.

@CathyMac Try turning off the IPv6 and see if you get an improvement.

The installation leaves a lot to be desired, but with the time constraints it's clear your engineer didn't want to spend time digging through roots. As it is the fibre is vulnerable to impacts where it goes over the stonework (I hope this is also on your side of the hedge. Also, that fibre is vulnerable to hedge trimmers, kevlar jacket or not. I've a feeling this would be revisited and rerouted if you kick up a little storm with vodafone, or slipped with the trimmers. Any damage is the responsibility of the installation engineer in this case.

Some engineers have pride in their work. This one clearly doesn't.
