Solution

Digital Voice

I'm considering moving my broadband to Vodafone.

I noticed when looking at the offers, there is a notificatio about Digital Voice, and extension sockets will no longer work.

The master socket is under the stairs, and there is no method of powering the Router there.

Do I need to get the master socket moved first, or is this something that Vodafone does when we switch, or is there something else that can be done?

I would say yes. assuming you are on FTTC.

I personally would advise getting the master socket moved to the socket you are actually connected to.

Also, assuming you are currently on FFTC, the new connection may be FTTP, if it is available in your area.

Sorry I can't be more precise without more info.

Unfortunately, the digital voice will probably apply whoever you move to, and will also apply to your current provider by the end of 2025.

If you have used the Vodafone availability checker Best Broadband Deals | Home Broadband | Vodafone, and have only been offered Fibre options (not Full Fibre) then FTTP is not available to you, so they will be using the same connection as you have now. (unless you are on Virgin)

With the changes currently happening in the broadband market it's not possible to give a "one answer fits all".

Odd question, unless you have never had broadband before,

If your current broadband is FTTC, the router must be plugged in somewhere.

If your current broadband is connected to an extension socket, it really shouldn't be, but the Vodafone router should work there just as well as the current one,  however it and any other extensions will not work for a telephone.

Without more information about your specific situation, it's really not possible to advise further.

Apologies if my question is a bit on the stupid side, I'm not very technical with these things..

I've been with the same provider for a long time, and was thinking of switching to save a bit of cash, and got spooked with the Digital Voice thing

So, if I understand what you've said,  I could connect the Vodafone router to the same extension as is currently being used, then connect the phone to the router to get voice calls?
