Direction of Wifi Booster Signal?

Hi

I set up a Wifi Booster at a height of just over a metre to test it. I ran it for a few days and then after all seemed well I decide to move the booster put of the way. I put it up on a small shelf near the ceiling. At that point my Firesticks all started to have wifi strength and internet issues. I have put the booster down at the lower level and the signal strength is good and I have not had any issues withe the Firesticks

Do boosters project their signals upwards? I had assumed that they broadcast in all directions but maybe not

Thanks

@steve165  The router should be away from any wall or ceiling in general, so it looks like you just got too close. It's also likely that there could be dense building material (joists etc), power cables, water pipes etc just where you placed the router too.

Hi there. Thanks for your reply

Just to say that a wifi booster must be near a wall of some description for most practical situations I would have thought.

Do wifi signals not reflect of walls or other hard objects? What I found odd was that the signal was much better when at around 4 ft from the floor rather than 8 ft near the ceiling.

Thanks

Steve

@steve165 It's just hit-and-miss with what is inside the wall and what kind of brick the wall is made of. My house has some steel joists so rather strangely one upstairs room gets a better WiFi signal than another that is nearer to the router in a straight line.
