We can only receive wifi in the rooms close to the router, we have been told to use additional routers,  wifi extenders and powerline extenders so I'm now completely  confused.

we have 3 storeys up and same wide so would need 2 of whatever is needed.

Has anyone got any experience of this and advice on which of the 3 to choose please.

Hey @madmumof5

Powerline adapters are great, they plug into your mains power sockets, and basically create a network over your electrical mains circuit. One drawback is there prone to interference from devices plugged into other sockets. I have a couple of fish tanks at home and the pumps I use cause a bit of interference on mine.

They’re pretty inexpensive though, and It would be an idea to get a couple of these to try them out.

Wi-Fi extenders are also great;. You just need to install them where the signal is starting to drop off they will then send out another Wi-Fi signal which can reach further. There are basic ones and slightly techier ones which create a mesh network in your home.

Using another router is an option too, it would be best to run an Ethernet cable from our router to the other one. You can then use the other router in the same way. The drawback is the Ethernet cable running through your house.

The dark grey Vodafone router that's shipped with FTTH gigafast packages. I thought it was a THG3000 although I can't verify it. I swapped mine out and sent it back because we have a very large coverage area with 8 x AX92u nodes.

If it was a THG3000 then it is definitely only Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac). It's actually quite an old router design, going back to at least 2018 I believe. Where did you get your specs from?

You should really have kept it, Vodafone may refuse support if you can't put it back on.

Almost certainly Definitely will refuse support.   Support staff won’t have scripts for anything other than Vodafone kit with Vodafone firmware.

The prevailing wisdom for those using non-Vodafone kit has always been, “Keep your VF router in case you need support”.

*I cannot imagine a configuration where 8 x RT-AC92X would run smoothly.  It'd need to be a massive property and other solutions would almost certainly be better!  And this is from someone running an Asus router who has previously used AiMesh without any hitches!

I have a 24 month contract with Vodafone. In my kitchen I don't get WiFi so I  have bought a Netgear EX 6110 wifi extender but while it works, I cannot use the extended wifi options because no password that I have will work.  I have spent all evening on "chat" with Vodafone and they just offer to upgrade to a PRO contract which of course will cost me. The WiFi in the rest of my house is totally fine, I don't need anything faster. All I need is a password which allows my phone/tablet etc to connect to the WiFi extension. Broadband advisor at Vodafone didn't seem to understand or was just unable to help. Can anyone tell me what to do? My WiFi password does NOT work.  Thanks

.@VCX1 I am not being "cheeky", but have you checked the settings in the Netgear product? It may be worth resetting the EX 6110.

Here are the manual links

Sorry if you have already been though all this.

No, fine to check.

I have the simple manual already and the other one is essentially the same.

I can connect  the extender using the WPS method. The 3 green lights are on. Not the "device" light. If I go to WiFi settings on my phone or tablet, the 2G and 5G extensions are there but if I try to use them, I am asked for a password,  The manual says use the same password as my router but is just keeps saying it is incorrect.  Which of course it isn't as I  an use my Normal wifi, just not the extensions. Do you see what I mean?

That sounds worrying!  As someone looking to switch to Vodafone in the next few days.

Could I use a better router with more powerful Wifi or is the Vodafone service somehow locked to their routers?

There really is no hard info on how the Vodafone Mesh extenders work, other that they are supposed to be zero-config!  Other users in here though have confirmed that they will use ethernet backhaul.

I guess the thing with Mesh systems is that they are supposed to be transparent and pick the best route for your signals back to the router.  At times that can mean the router not handing over to the mesh.

*I don't use the Vodafone router.  The Mesh extender here has a camera and smart device bound to it.  During weekdays, pretty much nothing else will ever bind to the extender.  Come weekends though, when there is more local interference, more devices connect to the Mesh extender.  It is, as it should be completely transparent - as long as it works, and once the struggle to set up was complete, it has flawlessly, then that's all good!

@papabrown - don't do it!
