I want to limit my kid's devices acess to the internet. Can anyone tell me how I can do this ? I'd like to disable after a certain time, the scheduling functionality looked ideal, but I don't know how to add devices to a named schedule
The problem is that most of the solutions involve not using the Vodafone modem/router, which totally negates any benefit from being on the "Pro" service - at least you are supposedly able to cancel this at any time!
There are devices such as the Fingbox, that can be used to schedule activity time for specific users, but in order to do this, it uses a network trick that is a bit shady. It does work but...
Please do not take this as a recommendation for the Fingbox, while it will probably do what you want, it is not a product I would recommend!
Thanks - I am happy to change modem/ contract or whatever else may be necessary as this is a huge issue in our household and is really throwing a spanner into the works.
As an all in one device, I'd probably go for the Tp-Link VR2800, or if you don't want to spend quite that much the VR2100 or VR900. *There are some on here that don't like the VR2100* You will see some people on these boards that have had issues with TP-Link devices, but thanks to the performance and value for money they are very common (hence you do see people posting issues).
You could try and future proof your home network with a device such as the Asus DSL-AX82U, but it's really aimed a little more at those who like to tinker a bit!
*If you use your own modem/router you'll need to get your DSL username and password off support
I have just switched over from BT. Vodafone: BT’s router is streets ahead of yours in terms of its software giving users the ability to control specific devices’ access to Wi-Fi and Ethernet. This would definitely have made me consider an alternative supplier had I known these limitations. Please confirm you will consider upgrading your router software.
Yes it does but... in my scenario I was better off with a single device. That was due to a dlna server and split NAT. So I was better off streamlining.
I had the same issue but worked away around this. You can make a guest wifi using the Vodafone app. This is a separate wifi and has its own password. Put all kids devices onto the guest wifi. You can also change the name from guest to one of your choice. Then in the app when you want to turn their wifi off you just select guest, then there is a turn on/off toggle. Make sure to turn back on when you want them to use internet again
