How do my three existing 'phones connect into the VoIP ports on the router?

Have ordered the upgrade from my Voda broadband ADSL to FTTC to be switched on at the end of January 2023. From the published info, the message is that I plug my telephone into the phone socket on the router using the supplied cable adaptor.

Um - I live in a three floor house with a phone on each floor so just one phone is not an option. The house is wired with a "master" socket in the hall with various phone sockets around the house. So what do I do to connect my three phones to the router?

And no, I don't want to change over to a DECT system.

Perhaps the wiring to the rest of the house at the master socket can be disconnected and moved to its own telephone socket then a double ended BT telephone plug cable linking the router to the new socket?

Have done a bit of searching and the only hint about this has come from this site.

Roger.

That is exactly the way to go, although as the old wiring will be redundant, just disconnect the incoming line and then use any phone socket to connect into. If you want to use a phone in the same socket, a phone doubler should do the trick.

The phone sockets on the Vodafone router (THG3000) are RJ11, so if you use a double ended BT cable you will need an adapter (which should be supplied, but isn't always) or an RJ11 to BT cable.

Having just renewed my FTTC Superfast 2 (now called Fibre 2), Vodafone will be sending one to me towards the end of the month.  As I don't ever use a landline or even have one plugged in, it will be just more clutter that they may or may not want back at some point in the future.  It will join the one HHG2500 and two THG3000 hubs that I currently have in clutterage.

Thanks for your prompt and detailed reply - much appreciated.

It was a bit of a guess as to whether my proposal would work in that perhaps the router wouldn't have enough power to drive the three phones. We'll see when Voda make the changeover and I'll update the entry.

As to how much use the fixed line gets, since mobiles mostly have unlimited free calls then there is little incentive to pay for landline calls (except perhaps for people who prefer / need to use a telephone). The only use the line gets is for incoming calls which are very few.

Lastly, thanks for picking up on my description of which patch cable to use. It was only after I posted the message that I realised that a BT to BT wasn't what I needed...
