How to Set up a third party router with vodafone

The first thing you need to do is ask Vodafone for your username and password. live chat with Vodafone is best because you can copy and paste the name and password into the router. ( some users did write it down wrong. password is lower and upper case. username watch out for zero and o )

FTTC SETTING         ( FTTP is below FTTC)

The setting is the same for all the routers it's down to the isp (the setting page will be laid out differently but the setting are still the same, eg

Vodafone setting are

Vlan ID - 101

enable 802.1q (not on every router)

Username  - ******@broadband.vodafone.co.uk

Username - ******@businessbroadband.vodafone.co.uk  ( for business customers )

Password - ********

PPPoE

MTU Size : 1492

rest of the setting auto detect when the router and the dslam are negotiating with each other

TP-Link Archer VR400 V3 AC1200 Wireless MU-MIMO Dual Band (1st Advanced tab, change the Operation Mode to Wireless Router Mode (the ONT is acting as a modem, hence it will not work if you are in DLS Modem Router Mode). 2nd  Do not enable VLAN ID or it will not work! Vodafone will tell you to set it to 101, if you do this it will not work! Keep the default MTU size (1480), do not change it to 1492, as suggested in several posts in this thread, or it will not work!.

(from user) I managed to connect Asus DSL-AX82U modem/router and use it without Vodafone Wi-Fi hub finally. When use Asus router tutorial choose network provider as BT - Infinity. VLAN ID come up automatically as 101 then just copy your Vodafone username and password

That has got to be wrong, unfortunately I'm on Superfast so can't definitely confirm that is not the case with Gigafast, but if it was I'm sure we would have loads of complaints on here.

Vodafone never post definitive answers on here, lets hope someone using Gigafast can confirm one way or the other.

The link you provided doesn't seem to be specifically for Gigafast and I've just tested using Alexa to call a land line and that definitely works.

yes, I'm on Superfast 2 - and all these work. You're correct, the link was referring more generically to third party routers - but you'll have noticed the specific passage referring to gigafast and VOIP. As you say we may get Gigafast users confirm if this is an issue - it effectively rules out key services for homeworking if true.

Hi - I have purchased the TP Link VR600 v3 (AC2100) and connected fine. My problem is that my download connection speed has gone from about 23,000kbps to 14,999 over the last 3-4 days and the SNR margin has gone up from about 8 to 13.2. My max rate is currently 37,617. My upstream is fine - 5996 versus a max of 6390. I have queried with VF and had a text from VF saying they have tested my line and can't find a fault, and blamed my equipment or home set up. Does anyone have any thoughts please? Thanks

My first thought is what happens if you put the Vodafone router back on? What sync speeds do you get then?

Hi. I did try that briefly a couple of days ago. I have done it again and left the VF router connected for an hour and a half. The downstream connection dropped from 14,999 to 14,339 and the upload dropped from 5,996 to 5,662. The SNR margin stayed at 13.4. Doesn't look like a router issue.

I then left both disconnected for half an hour.  The VR600 then connected with the previous speeds (14,999 and 5,996) . The max rate download had dropped from 37,927 to 36,696 but the SNR had dropped from 13.4 to 13.2.

Tempted to leave disconnected overnight to see what happens or try to get VF to set the line?

You need to plug the new router in and then get a D.L.M. reset . Every time you unplug your router it will just keep getting slower and SNR will get higher
