IF YOU ARE USING A THIRD-PARTY ROUTER THAT WORKS 100% WITHOUT BUGS.PLEASE PM ME THE MAKE AND MODEL SO I CAN UPDATE THE LIST
The first thing you need to do is ask Vodafone for your username and password. live chat with Vodafone is best because you can copy and paste the name and password into the router. ( some users did write it down wrong. password is lower and upper case. username watch out for zero and o )

TP-Link Archer VR400 V3 AC1200 Wireless MU-MIMO Dual Band (1st Advanced tab, change the Operation Mode to Wireless Router Mode (the ONT is acting as a modem, hence it will not work if you are in DLS Modem Router Mode). 2nd Do not enable VLAN ID or it will not work! Vodafone will tell you to set it to 101, if you do this it will not work! Keep the default MTU size (1480), do not change it to 1492, as suggested in several posts in this thread, or it will not work!.

Sorry, but an ONT is not a modem. It performs the equivalent job on fibre that a modem does on copper, but it shouldn't be called a modem.
The Huawei HG612V3b is a modem not an ONT, there is no optical fibre connection to the Huawei HG612V3b.
I wouldn't have bothered to mention it but you were complaining about others using terminology incorrectly and yet you did yourself.
And yes I'm sure I've done it many times.
Edit, this can explain it better than me.
terminology - Is an ONT a modem? - Network Engineering Stack Exchange
2nd Edit, It would be permissible to call an ONT an optical modem, as modem has become the generic name for the box that sits between the incoming line and the router, like all vacuum cleaners are referred to as "hoovers".

Just set up a TP-Link Archer AC2300 router on Gigafast (the price for Asus AC86 had shot up overnight).
Simples; plug into ONT, add user/pass, connected. No VLAN ID needed.
Ping 6ms, Down/Up: 490/65
Have PM'd details to add to confirmed list.

Thanks for updating us!
As to the Asus RT-AC86U, I got mine from Amazon's Black Friday event in 2019 (so shortly after launch), and the price £125! I kind of assumed that would be the price going forward - seems I was very wrong!

I would strongly suggest adding the below router to the list which I wholeheartedly recommend:-
Netgear D6400-100UKS ADSL & VDSL router with Ethernet + dual band AC1600 Wifi + beamforming
It works extremely well and is easy very to setup. You can even select Vodafone from the list of ISPs.
As of June 2021 it is still available new from Ebuyer but won’t be for long. Netgear updated the firmware in May 2021. On plugging it in I immediately got 48.3mbps down, I only got 46.3mbps on the Vodafone WiFi Hub. It’s a smart looking router and is far more compact than Vodafone’s latest offering.

hi have the d6400 . could you help me please with setting on this d6400 and the Vodaphone one please . d6400 need to be a router now . because been switch out to digital house phone
12-10-2023 07:14 AM
Honestly? The vodafone router is a much more performant router than the d6400. Why not just use that on it's own?

Hi Ripshod why is better please

The D6400 is over 8 years old, is only rated at AC1600, and struggles to reach 300Mbps on it's WAN port. No firmware updates since last year.

I don't understand the query?
If you are on digital voice, using a router other than the Vodafone one will lose easy access to the phone line.
