IF YOU ARE USING A THIRD-PARTY ROUTER THAT WORKS 100% WITHOUT BUGS.PLEASE PM ME THE MAKE AND MODEL SO I CAN UPDATE THE LIST
The first thing you need to do is ask Vodafone for your username and password. live chat with Vodafone is best because you can copy and paste the name and password into the router. ( some users did write it down wrong. password is lower and upper case. username watch out for zero and o )

FTTC SETTING ( FTTP is below FTTC)
The setting is the same for all the routers it's down to the isp (the setting page will be laid out differently but the setting are still the same, eg
Vodafone setting are
Vlan ID - 101
enable 802.1q (not on every router)
Username - ******@broadband.vodafone.co.uk
Username - ******@businessbroadband.vodafone.co.uk ( for business customers )
Password - ********
PPPoE
MTU Size : 1492
rest of the setting auto detect when the router and the dslam are negotiating with each other

TP-Link Archer VR400 V3 AC1200 Wireless MU-MIMO Dual Band (1st Advanced tab, change the Operation Mode to Wireless Router Mode (the ONT is acting as a modem, hence it will not work if you are in DLS Modem Router Mode). 2nd Do not enable VLAN ID or it will not work! Vodafone will tell you to set it to 101, if you do this it will not work! Keep the default MTU size (1480), do not change it to 1492, as suggested in several posts in this thread, or it will not work!.

RT-AX86U ?
(from user) I managed to connect Asus DSL-AX82U modem/router and use it without Vodafone Wi-Fi hub finally. When use Asus router tutorial choose network provider as BT - Infinity. VLAN ID come up automatically as 101 then just copy your Vodafone username and password

Hoping someone can help me diagnose some issues I am running with using 3rd party routers on my Vodafone full fibre 900mb connection. I have been using an Asus AC87U since my install 6 months ago and only notice some slowdowns recently. I couldnt quite remember if they were there from the start but my initial tests with the Vodafone THG3000 router yielded solidly 900mb/s download on speedtest.net.
Using the Asus router (correct PPPOE credentials and VLAN set to 911 as on cityfibre) I am only getting 400-500mb. When I plug the THG3000 back in, its goes back up to +900mb/s no problems. Did some reasearch and apparently the Asus AC87U is an ageing router and could be maxing out the single core CPU. So I look for a replacement and source a much newer Draytek Vigor 2865 which by all account should be good for the 900mb/s. But I'm still testing bewteen 400-500mb/s region. I have enabled HW accelaration as this is meant to help but it doesnt improve things.
Just wondering those who are successfuly using 3rd party routers, are you getting the expected speeds?

It's highly likely you're running at least one of the included TrendMicro add-ons on the router, one major cause of slowdowns caused by high cpu usage. Log into the UI, got to Administration>Privacy and withdraw your consent. Reboot and test again.

would that not only just apply to the asus router though as i think the Trend Micro is a package for asus? that would not explain the slowdown i am getting with the newer Draytek router.

My bad, I read it wrong.

I don't think there's a means on the latest Draytek routers to test the connection speed. Your only option may be to set up a connection using your username and password on a computer with an ethernet port and try a direct connection between that device and the ONT. Even then you may not get the results you expect if the device you use can't keep up (or your network settings are incorrect).
Without doing any of that the fastest device I have over WiFi is a Poco F3 that can manage a speed test of 730Mbps maximum, but 650Mbps more commonly. This is on a connection that measures 934/104Mbps at the router, and the phone can manage an iPerf test to the router of just over 900Mbps. *The phone returns identical speed tests if it connects via the mesh node (2304Mbps PHY).

I've just set up my third party router and after a frustrating morning I discovered that if you have a static IP address you might need to put this in to your router settings. I've never had to do this with a previous ISP and the setting is buried deep in the router's UI. It won't connect without this.
On my TPLink VR400 it's under Advanced>Network>Internet>Advanced>IP Specified IP Address
13-03-2022 02:34 PM
That doesn't sound right. Were you getting the correct static address whilst using the THG3000?

Yes.
I was given the username and password and the static ID on Thursday. Didn't do anything with it until last night (Saturday). Logged in to the THG3000 and found it was still on the previous IP but changed to my assigned static IP after disconnecting and reconnecting. This morning (Sunday) I plugged in my old router, changed the login details from my previous provider to that provided by VF and changed the MTU from 1480 to 1492. Tried connecting and it wouldn't connect. Discovered that the username I had copied and pasted from the chat said vodafone.cu.uk 🙄 corrected that. Still wouldn't connect. Then spent about 15 minutes randomly trying things (e.g. changing MTU back to 1480) all to no avail. Then noticed there was a box called "ISP specified IP address" so put my static IP in there and bingo, it connected.

Interesting as the Static IP is usually still issued by the DHCP server (as it must have been for the THG3000 to get it)
Still, as long as it works. My only worry would be if Vodafone messed up (as if?) sometime and put your address back into the pool, you would never know, but if it was being issued by the DHCP you would notice when you got another one.
