Hi there
I asked from vodafone a static ip address, and they emailed me one.
I was trying to apply it to my router (I have the new one) and I can't do it. I tried by IP4V to put in the new static ip address, but than I checked online, and I had a different ip address.
Any solution?

Hi. Yes I spent about 2 hours on chat explaining to them the difference between static and DHCP. Got worn down. I'm going to plug their router back in. Hot reset and leave it for a few days. Honestly it's so depressing..I'll let you know.

Strange, as I've always found the agents on live chat quite knowledgeable, unlike on the phone.

So last night, powered up vf router, left it as is, chatted broadband support today. They (again) have put a new request in for the static ip. Have decided to now leave vf router on for a few days, with the idea of going back to them on monday or tuesday. Most likely i'll leave it till tuesday, do a reboot to see if picks up the magic ip and then no doubt get back in touch with them.
shall update then.

@thombe The reboot may not be needed as VF can control the router remotely.

You shouldn't need to reboot to see if it gets the new IP, you can do a reconnect from the router. Should be much faster and less disruptive,
The Fibre is greyed out on mine, because I'm on VDSL.

hey, thanks for that, i did actually use this a couple of times today after further attempts with vod support
got some manager on and has now escalated to tech 2 support after me begging. I also had to explain again what dhcp and static ip is. bit deflating. Anyway have a reference with tech 2. So they supposedly will be in touch.
Will find out in next few days.

so update:
tech support called me, told me that they can see i have two voda routers (presumably my old one in the loft) and so they need to delete that and make sure i only have the one, convinced that this is the issue.
i need to reset it and it will repopulate all the services.
Well i can only try that.
Will do this in the next couple of days when its convenient, so will see then.

Ok so update.
tech 2 support told me they used a different system to apply the static ip.
by the next day i had a new ip, rebooted, reconnected, did various things, and yes, i have a static ip.
plugged my own router back in, and it picks up the ip, so finally all good.
now why its taken since the end of jan to get this resolved i really don't know.
i still like vodafone and still rate them, i'm just unlucky i'd like to believe here on this one.
But really it should have escalated to level 2 way sooner and they also need to learn why it didn't work.
Anyway I'd like to thank you all for your input, ideas and help.
For anyone in a similar position.
Get to tech 2 support level.
I can also tell you the ip is not bound by mac address as i'm using different equipment. But it would be a good idea to get it resolved with the vod router, and then use your own kit.

Honestly this could have been done by the customer services on chat. There was no need for this to get elevated in the first place.
Not only do they not understand anything about the product, they don't even seem able to comprehend what they can do themselves.
You have to be lucky to find the 1 in 1000 that has some basic knowledge.

Glad you're (finally) sorted.
