Https server

I need to be able to access a device at home whilst away from home. This device uses a https website and setting up a port forward to it should be fairly simple, however it doesn't work. I can set up any port from the WiFi and it works but fails from outside. If I switch to http it works fine from outside, but changing back to https fails to connect. It must be something on the external network as the ports forward correctly, just won't accept https. Given this is now the recommended connection for pretty much everything, why wont Vodafone allow uses to use it at home?

The ports for http and https are different,

The default HTTP and HTTPS ports for the Web server are port 80 and 443, respectively.

Apologies if you knew that already and I misunderstood the query.

Edit: I've now seen your replies on the other thread, so obviously you do know that.

I'm sure there will be other posters who are running servers who will be more help.

Yes, thank you. Just to clarify, if I set up http only on the server and use port 443 I can connect from outside perfectly. If I enable https on the server, still on port 443, the connection time out from outside.

Had same issue on our Vodafone service too. Have been running a VPN server using https port 443, which stopped working recently. Service page works from inside home network/WiFi but not remotely. It's definitely not yoi, something has changed on vodafones network. As this is a change to their service, technically are we entitled to cancel our agreement and go elsewhere if they don't fix it quickly?

Port 443 is one of those that as soon as you start playing around with it, you really ought to be looking at something more capable than the VF router!  I think using this as a get-out-of-contract for free would be a bit of a push.

*Happily using TCP Port 443 for VPN (setup on the router) for several years without issue!
