Hi

Any one have experience with connect no Vodafone router direct via optic cable?

I have a Huawei EchoLife HG8245W5-8T GPON router and I would like to connect this instead s... Vodafone router.

Any advice pleas.

We're still not sure yet whether the service us locked to the ONT's MAC or serial.

There's other factors too but the above two would be enough to spoil anyone's day.

As an aside, would a router you can pick up on ebay for just £20 really be suitable?

If you are intending to remove the fibre from the ONT and connect it direct to the router, I doubt anyone has done that here, Still no harm asking.

@jackklich From a position of ignorance of this question, but based on other optical connections, doesn't it all depends on whether the fibre is terminated into a plug that fits into the router? Alignment of fibre terminations can be a right pain.

Assuming you already have the device, and would like to make use of it, why not connect via the ethernet WAN port?

Just because it has a GPON interface, you don't have to use it. I don't believe there is any benefit to doing so.

Bear in mind, I not familiar with that router, so perhaps I'm missing something.
