Mid-contract price increases on brand-new contract

Hi all,

I believe there's a plan for Vodafone to increase prices by approximately 17% this April in line with other providers. I'm looking at an upgrade currently to Fibre 500 for £30.

If I placed an order for this now, the service could go live near the end of March. Would this mean that the cost of the contract would immediately jump to £35 days after I was connected, or is there a period for which new contracts are not eligible for a price increase? I had a look at various provider terms and conditions and the ofcom gudiance, but that specific case doesn't seem to be covered anywhere.

@BangorTom

Assuming your reply is to me, no I am not a employee. I'm not even a fan of Vodafone, I think they are one of the worst ISP's. (but I haven't tried them all)

However they are pretty cheap, and work well for me on VDSL.

When inflation was low, CPI+3.9% didn't seem too onerous, but now I think sticking to the contract with CPI so high is a bit much, but its a contract so there isn't much I can do about it.

If you weren't aware that your original price included a discount, and that any price rises in contract would be based on the "before discount" contract price, I do think that is unfortunate, but not entirely Vodafone's fault.

I'm just as annoyed as you, but as my discount is only £2 it isn't so bad for me. (I was aware of the T&C's when I renewed my contract, I just wasn't expecting the enormous rise in CPI)

My large number of posts is because I like helping people with their broadband problems, where I can, but I can't change the contract we all agreed to when we took it out.

Jayach,

Very good, you're working hard then. I do agree, it is up to us to familiarise ourselves with the T and Cs. It is also up to Vodafone to make those clear (and accurate),  before and after sale, and make them clear enough for not only the customer, but also their own employees ( was not the case here).

Keep helping, regards.

It has ben mentioned on here before, I believe it's on the price before the discount, others insisted it the price after the discount (i.e. the price currently paid).

I will be getting my first price rise in April. so will know then.

Just to confirm, my April increase in now shown in my account and it is on the price after discount, not as I thought (and the contract seems to say) the price before discount.

I presume it will be the same for everybody.

Just checked my ‘Future Bill’.  The end of April bill is showing as unchanged so it looks as though renewing my contract early (as posted a month ago) has swerved this year’s price increase.

Having very recently 'negotiated' a new 2 year contract renewal (effective from this month)  before the mid-April expiry of the existing contract, I'll be interested to see if I get hit with the criminal RPI+3.9% (14.4%) increase…

Disappointed if I do but not entirely surprised even though the price rise was what I sought to avoid.  It will take me up to £24.02 (FTTC Fibre 2) which is still 4 or 5 quid cheaper than my very first VF contract.

Update:  had the email advising that my price is going up by what can only be described as a criminal percentage.

They will be hearing from me with a view to binning the thieving robbing bar stewards as the whole idea of renewing early was to avoid this year's increase.  I can't connect to my account or the waste of space TOBI tonight (unsurprisingly) but tomorrow?  We'll see.

@HappyNomad

If you took the new contract out since the 23rd February you should not get a price rise this year.

Is it possible the email is due to the previous contract, and not the current one? As my increase in now shown in my account, presumably yours should be too.

Once you are able to contact them tomorrow, do let us know how you get on.
