Hi all, i have just signed up for full fibre. My question is Will my existing cordless phone with answerphone work with the new setup.

Possibly. You haven't said what type of phone you have. This question has been discussed before, so searching the forum may answer your question.

   I have a BT CORDLESS with  answerphone and one linked extension upstairs. I understand that the phone will need plugging into the router with FF so was wondering if I would need to get a new compatible phone.

Yes it should be fine. If it is the kind that asks callers to press buttons, that may not work.

Vodafone should supply an adapter to connect it to the router. If they don't, ask for one via live chat, using the DSL cable probably won't work.
