Emojis cost money to send

Just been fobbed off once again saying that maybe my phone charges to send emojis but my husband's phone is free even though we're both on Android phones and have big value bundles, so basically if you have any credit left on your phone they will take it from you

Hi @Chris67! You shouldn't be charged for sending emojis but you may be charged for picture messages. It depends how big the emoji is. It's the same concept with long text messages, once a message reaches a certain length or size (due to it's content), it will be converted into a picture message and these can be chargeable if you don't have them included in your plan. Whether an emoji can be sent via SMS depends not on your network, but on how your phone is configured and whether it supports particular character sets.

Android phones, for example, can use the Unicode alphabet which should support all the in-built emojis. If you happen to find any character (or animated-GIF) that can't be sent as SMS, the phone should warn you with "converting to MMS" or something similar, on-screen.
