No 4g on new pay as you go sim on iphone 8

before committing to Vodafone contract i bought a pay as you go sim to check network and signal strength.

on inserting the sim card into my unlocked iphone 8 i can only get a 3g signal.

i have been on to live support chat many times and reset network setting and apn to pp

i have put the sim in another phone (samsung s9) and it defaults to 4g so its not the sim

i have found this really frustrating - no one at vodafone seems to know how to resolve this.

can anyone please offer some help - i appear to have exhausted all avenues.

Hi @neilalex36 

 

On an iphone there is a setting for 4G/LTE, it will say optional, but leave this blank and see if it makes a difference and you are able to connect to the 4G network.  Also further information on device guides here: Device Support 

 

If you have continued problems, it may be that 4G needs to be provisioned against the number and this will be something Customer Service or live chat will be able to help.

4g/lte is blank

 

surely live help must have known to check this

 

i have been on with them 5/6 times

 

the sim activates to 4g on another handsrt (samsung so surely 4g is provisioned already)

Have you tried texting WEB to 40127?   This will update the SIM on the network and configure the APN settings for internet access.

no i havent tried that

i got fed up waiting and put my three sim back in

So I've tried requestbthe settings via that text method but still 3g remains 

 

next idea??

Thanks for getting in touch @neilalex36. You'll need to update your APN settings. Go to settings > Mobile data > Mobile data network. Then enter the details below into the sections marked, Mobile Data, LTE Setup, MMS and Personal Hotspot:

APN = pp.vodafone.co.uk

Username = wap

Password = wap

Once you've done that, please restart your phone and your 4G should be up and running. Give that a try and let us know how you get on.
