Hi Vodafone,

The information on the website states that esim is not available to PAYG customers but I have to option in MyVodafone to change my SIM into an eSIM. What happens if I try to switch a PAYG from a SIM to a eSIM trough that MyVodafone procedure?

Thanks,

George

I find it really funny people think they know everything Yes eSIMs are for all devices just becaue its available on your my vodafone account doesn't mean its compatable. eSIMs are Only available to Pay Monthly and SIM Only just now. eSIMs are easy.

If you’re on Pay Monthly with an e-sim, you can migrate to PAYG and remain on e-sim.

Hi @GemmaP, do you know eSIM is now supported on PAYG? I went through the switch on the web account last year but got locked out as nothing happened after I completed the form. Would like to avoid having to go back to the store again.

Anyone here tried swapping his payg SIM for eSIM?
Did it work?

Yes and yes but I don't recommend that you do it. It's not officially supported on Vodafone Pay Go and should you encounter an issue in the future it will probably come back and bite you!

I did it through the website (my account) and ended up without service - there was no warning and after I requested the eSIM the email never arrived. I had to go to a store to get a new physical SIM. I have complained to Vodafone that they need to improve the information on their website (to say that PAYG is not supported) and in my account (to not offer the option if you're on PAYG), but to no avail. If you stop by any of their stores they will tell you eSIM is not available for PAYG.

It has been a while since I tested eSIM on Pay Go and so maybe something has changed...

FYI - No need for a new SIM card as the old one can be re-registered on your account. You'd have to contact support on 191 to request this though and have the SIM ICCID Number. I have switched from eSIM and back to the old SIM via the SIM swap option located in my control panel in the past too.

@rarecat Thanx for sharing.

When was it that you tried it? Recently?

Whenever I have to go to town I will pop in, to check if eSIM is available,

but none of the big 4 does officially offer it on pay as you go

I have heard that EE would swap to eSIM on pay as you go, but no officially.
3 is the only one that has not released the support of eSIM at all yet ...

For anyone doing the same... #

To confirm, I’ve changed to an eSIM on PAYG today!

Last week i just grabbed a 99p Vodaphone SIM form a local shop, signed up for a PAYG. plan with a small £ amount topped up

Went into my Account:

Settings / Plan Settings (View) / Manage My SIM / Activate Replacement SIM.

Selected: eSIM

Selected: Enter device EID manually. ( then entered the EID of my phone SIM Slot)

This is what happend:

- First attempt came back with an error about to many attempts

- Second attempt was the same

- After Leaving the system for about 3 days for any errors to clear, the Third attempts was successful

Within 5 mins i had the confirmation email through with the eSIM details and QR Code. Also my Pixel 4a 5G will automatically search the networks for any eSIM details available. So the installation was almost automatic :Smiling:

Happy days

Hi @Purko, which PAYG plan did you sign up for? What is the minimum amount for a top up? I would like to get an eSIM for my Pixel as well. Thanks
