I had a contract with vodapone with an extra number for my dad. I closed the account. The first i knew of an outstanding balance was when i recieved a letter from a collection agency. I checked my credit report and it showed an outstanding payment so i paid the agency. When i contacted vodafona to file a complaint about not being informed about the outstanding payment i was told no. I was told i had been sent an email, earlier in the call i told the email for me was wrong. I was told i was sent a text but dont know what number as i did not recieve the text. Also after i paid the collection agency i recieved a default on my credit report. If you check my history i have never missed a payment ti vodafone or any of my other accounts and would have paid the £17 if someone had called to let me know the payment was outstanding. I have only started checking my credit report as i am looking to buy a house and this could prevent me from getting a morgage

What we sometimes see @Maries9 is that when the account holder ends the contract they then cancel the direct debit which then does not allow Vodafone to collect any remaining amount.

It can take Vodafone 2 to 4 weeks to produce the final bill.

I understand what your saying about being contacted to collect the outstanding monies, but if Vodafone feel they've exhausted all means of collecting they can engage a debt recovery agency.

They can then also without any requirement to let the account holder know apply a default that lasts 6 years.

Paying the amount is the first step which should change the default status from Outstanding to Settled, however the default remains in situ.

I would suggest that you now contact the Vodafone Social Media Team's via Contact-us-for-account-specific-queries as they have a Credit File Specialist Team who can investigate the default to consider whether it is warranted or not.

I know from my own personal experience how damaging a default can be so I wish you all the best with this.
