Hiya,

I have recently applied for a mortgage which got declined due to a default on my account from 2013 for £89 this massive amount is affecting me and my family getting a mortgage massively.

Unfortunately with it being so long ago and not having an account anymore I do not know my account number or previous number. The default is due to be removed in September 2019 however I only have until April 2019 so it is critical for this default to be removed. How do I go about this please help.

Many thanks x

The Vodafone Social Media Teams here have a dedicated Credit File Specialist Team @Leahhilton

They read all posts and help where they can.

However if the default is warranted which it sounds like it is then it wouldn't be removed until the 6 years had elapsed from the default date.

So even if it was settled in 2013 is there not a chance it can be removed as I am being advised differently from my mortgage advisor?

Thank you x

I'm sure the mortgage advisor wants the mortgage to go through as much as you however the rules are quite clear on a warranted default being removed.

When a debt is paid then it shows as settled which looks better on the Credit File but still remains for 6 years.

Experian who is one of the Credit Houses can also clarify for you.

Experian.co.uk/consumer/guides/defaults.

"A default will stay on your credit file for six years from the date of default, regardless of whether you pay off the debt. But the good news is that once your default is removed, the lender won’t be able to re-register it, even if you still owe them money. Nevertheless, you should continue to meet any remaining payments as the lender could go on to register a CCJ against you."

You're very welcome @Leahhilton

However still do speak with Experian and Vodafone as they'll clarify officially for you.

I've added a link into my reply too.
